Seems strange that some are choosing to berate the efforts of a manager getting us the closest to championship we've been in 16 years. I too think it was time for a completely new manager but choose to applaud McCalls effort in that Wembley season rather than knock it.

 

Agreed Park. But as I always say, the league programme starts at game 1 with points to play for, not game 8 (or whatever).
Valuable points can be lost 'waiting' for the transfer window to close.
We should be up and running from the first whistle.

This club is a shambles from the top down, and we deserve to be the plodding league 2 outfit we are. Until theres a change in ownership and leadership at the very top of the club, this club will go nowhere except backwards.

The way he presents our recruitment in the media is just awful. It comes across as so passive, like he's literally doing nothing. Someone should really speak to him about it.

 

It really is a pathetic setup. All totally reliant on recommendations to McCall from agents with their own interests at the forefront. A fully reactive approach which inevitably leads to us missing out on a whole host of players simply because we haven't the setup to identify players for ourselves.

I was watching Coventry last night, who were relegated to L2 the season we lost in the Playoff final. That was their kick up the backside, despite their off field issues, and they changed their recruitment which has lead to two promotions. We've been relegated and are still stuck in the dark ages. Is it any wonder our recruitment is perennially dire?

 

So, FGR regular right back was ruled out for a long spell on Monday this week, 2 days later they have a decent replacement in. Strange how we have struggled to bring a right back in since releasing 3 others months ago

 

I think fans don't realised he's captained Portsmouth in front of big demanding crowds home and away. Fans have been crying out for a leader and when we find one even then he gets slated. 11 years more experience since we signed him, I expect he's improved a lot since then.

You have to be right in terms of Watt in midfield over last years debacle (honestly couldnt be any worse) but its the strength of the team that is being questioned. If Watt or Cooke pick up an early season injury we are up s..t creak without a paddle and same in so many areas of the squad. Its great having the 'kids' make up the squad but we are so lacking in certain areas it is a real worry. Park is just being Park on this site for the sake of it, just as Fordy is Fordy - but we cannot wait until October to start putting the final places into the jigsaw. The club was flat a pancake end of last season and if we are being frank, little has happened to change that over the past few months. If we get off to a bad start I dread to think what the apathy will be like on here and other platforms. If the club hasn't realised the overall mood of the fans and the need for a lift and signs of positivity then they should not be running the club. We have to operate with in our means, dont get me wrong, but they have to show our fans and the division we are in that we mean business

 

But then we would have to pay £140 for a Covid test which will bust our budget so that's gonna have to be a no I'm afraid.

Hate to say it, but McCall is probably not as well connected as you'd like to think..

 

We clearly require a head of recruitment similar to what Greg Abbott was doing under McCall's previous tenure.
Let Stuart focus on the training ground and preparing the team and get someone to use their contacts and scouting knowledge to bring in players, or at least work alongside Stuart to discuss players.
It shouldn't take this long to bring in a right back ffs. He keeps banging on about waiting the right one to come along. There's loads of free agents out there, we've got to go out and get them rather than waiting for a call from an agent when the majority of those won't be good enough.
The club really needs to get a better structure and get in the modern football world.

 

And to think a few years ago we were competing with Sheffield United for promotion and now they are spending 25 million on a striker from Liverpool.
