So, Evans is name checked in the T&A this morning.

For me he’s one the the worst players we’ve had, and I’ve often wondered, with thousands of footballers out there, how he’s managed to maintain a professional career - however fair play to him, and he’s obviously improved since he left us.

Also, he scored one of my favourite ever goals for us - a last minute winner in front of the kop to make us 3-2 winners, in one of my most memorable ever City games.

Maybe Jonathan Bateson, Lee Bullock and Matt Clarke (the defender) before the window shuts.

 

I think fans don't realised he's captained Portsmouth in front of big demanding crowds home and away. Fans have been crying out for a leader and when we find one even then he gets slated. 11 years more experience since we signed him, I expect he's improved a lot since then.

 

I wouldnt neccesarily be against this signing should we pull it off. He seems to have grown in stature a bit since leaving us and got an edge about him now that we have been missing. Hopefully his nastiness will rub of on others.

He doesnt seem to like city fans and they dont like him, a recipe for disaster on paper however im quite intrigued and hopeful on this one

Im not quite sure to be honest but certainly enjoys celebrating when he scores against us, a couple of which have prompted a reaction , not that ive anything against players celebrating against old clubs in fact id be more pee'd off as a fan if our player didnt celebrate seeing as though they are representing them now. I hate this sanitised apologetic hands in the air stuff, give me an adebayor reaction every day of the week.

Evans also had a few words to the sunwin stand when subbed off once after i presume someone was giving him verbals.

Its all odd, maybe he just took offence that many of our fans thought him not very good

 

I'd be gobsmacked if Evans returned. I can see him choosing to go virtually anywhere rather than back to Bradford. He absolutely must have improved since leaving. You can't be loved and stay for that long at Pompey whilst performing like he did whilst he was here.

He jokingly acknowledged he is hated by Bradford fans in an interview he did in 2018. He went on to say he was at the club during a tough time and he has no animosity towards fans or the club so I think we can put that one to bed.

Worth remembering Evans is a completely different player since we had him. He was 21/22ish at the time playing up front in that awful McCall/Taylor side. 442 hoof ball with Hanson who also was a similar age, both probably had a year or 2 football league experience in them at the time, getting balls in from wingers the caliber of Scott Neilson & Leon Osbourne.

Looks like Evans played a handful of times up front for Rotherham but 90% of the time played right mid. Right mid at Fleetwood. Pompey looks to have mainly played right wing too but he had a full season at RWB, the season they went up. Him and Enda Stevens played wing back their promotion season, he played 41 times in the promotion season with 5 goals and 6 assists from RWB. Hopefully he's still got the legs for a full season at wing back.

When you've no scouting structure, you're restricted. It's a case of back to the filing cabinet, look for the section "ex employees", and work your way through it.

 

One of the trouble he has is that when he was appointed the first time he openly said the hardest job he had signing players was that he found it hard to judge what level a player could play at, This is the reason he always used Abbott to scout and advise on players.

I saw the T&A headline that we're linked with re-signing Evans and for a brief few seconds thought it meant Lee Evans. Oh well...☹️
