The whole thing was rushed through without any real thought or scrutiny and I think a lot of clubs with hindsight are going to regret voting in favour of this cap.

If they're out of contract and desperate, they might be willing to take whatever they can get so as long as we keep 50 quid a week in reserve, we might be able to bag ourselves a bargain ;)

Think that's why not many clubs seem to bother loaning in at the minute, probably see a late rush. Usually they raid 18/19 year old lads with promise from a PL/CH youth setup to fill out gaps, if they work great if not they are just filler on cheap.

Where as now with this cap, you can grab a youth on loan but they need registering and not a lot of teams have the space or if they do theres a high chance he will be on more than the average wage you'd want to give someone who's not as proven. When all long, there are more free agents than ever before, all now realising they will have to drop old wage demands in the comings weeks and you can probably find a 28/29 year old with 200 games at L1/L2 level for the same if not less money than a PL club wants you to pay for a 19 year old on loan.

God almighty do we need both?
One or the other would suffice. Is this trying to save clubs and back up the EFL? Or is it so it’s easier in the long term when they don’t do the proper checks on prospective new owners and a team goes belly up, new owners might be more interested with less outgoings?

I just don't get the love-in that some people have with POC. I saw his first game for us at Barnsley and immediately thought he was a real lightweight and said so on here. Since then I've seen nothing whatsoever to change my initial impression. He isn't good in the air, he isn't strong enough or quick enough, nor does he yet have the positional sense to compensate for these deficiences. You need two big beasts at the back for success in League 2 and always did. BRE would fit the bill perfectly if he could play football, but unfortunately he can't. Tyler French is another lightweight, almost a carbon copy of Paudie. We're stuck with them all, however, and can only make do for this season, and, given that, a real thug of a defensive midfielder is an absolute necessity if we're going to get anywhere. Not sure if Stuart sees it like that though.

Why the patronising reply? Or are we not allowed an option?

Are we close to signing anyone? Not long to go. Is it just over 2 weeks?

Nothing at all. Think we are waiting for the loan market when the Prem and champ clubs release their squads. That's just my guess anyway.

Just seeing what turns up mate! 3 or 4 quality additions needed, but we'll wait to the 11th hour, only for our targets to bugger off and sign for someone else... its the City way

Can't agree there. You look at the four sides who went up this season and only Northampton had two 'beasts' at centre half. The three sides who went up automatically had a mixture of younger lads and experienced pros playing at the back, none of whom I would class in the McArdle/Davies mould I think you're allouding to.

On Paudie, I agree he was dreadful at Barnsley, but everyone had a stinker on that day because Hopkin shat himself and changed half the team. When Bowyer brought him back in, he was decent in a really poor team. Physicality wise, he dominated John Marquis at VP so I don't agree he isn't good enough in the air or strong enough. This season, he was poor though. Now I have a lot of sympathy here, because for starters he had an injury ravaged pre-season so was playing catch up for probably months in terms of fitness and match sharpness. Then when he did play, he never had consistency. Bowyer was constantly changing from a back four to a five and changing personnel within the back line. That isn't condusive for any player, let alone at centre half where it's vital that partnerships are established.

We finished a lucky 9th. Losing Vaughan makes the team weaker, he scored 11 of our 40 goals, 11 of 37 if you exclude own goals, although you’d struggle to find a worse midfield than last season. The shit show of a defence needs improving. Other teams getting weaker or not, there is no way that squad as it stands today is troubling the playoffs.

Could be waiting a while if that’s the case. Don’t think their window closes until October this year? So squads will be in after that? We could have played 8 games by then

It's a joke, if we don't sign anyone this week then that's a good 2 weeks wasted. Everyone will then be looking for us to sign someone next week and they'll big up the town game and we'll be back to hoping for a signing later that week, only to be dissapointed again. Surely these players we're 'supposedly' waiting on for them to make their minds up can make them up now. I thought Stuart wanted players who wanted to play for city, not ones that are keeping us waiting. Added to that surely the net stretches further than the ones we've 'supposedly' gone in for, I thought there was a countless number of players out of contract this summer?

I've just noticed that on the whole the loan market is very quiet, it will be a cheaper option for L1&2 clubs as most bigger clubs will pay a bigger portion of the wages. This season is going to be alot different!
