They also deployed a large graphic with the words 'periods have no gender'. The context and content was clear. A display with no reference to the word 'woman', despite the subject matter being menstruation.

How are you in a position to know the skin colour of posters on here? Are you making assumptions about skin colour on the basis of opinions posted, because if so, I'd call that racist behaviour, which should be unacceptable on this forum.

 

I'm not making assumptions about the skin colour of any specific posters on here. Merely lampooning the general tenor of some of the comments.

Its got nothing to do with being 'dense', although that's ironic in itself, because it would seem that you don't recognise the double standard and hypocrisy demonstrated in your post, which is why I called it out. Tbh, the comment you made doesn't really bother me personally, but Its pretty clear what you aimed to do.

I’m not on any sort of wind up. You either recognise when you’ve made a racist comment or you don’t. You clearly don’t, which is why I pointed it out. You’ve lazily attributed the sentiment of some comments in this thread to assumptions about the skin colour and gender of the people making the comments. That is, essentially, racist. The fact that you’ve generalised and assumed white skin colour, shouldn’t be different to the same principle being applied but with a different skin colour. That wouldn’t be tolerated. Forums and topics should be about debating the points raised, not jumping to conclusions about the skin colour or race of the person making the point.

 

I think you've hit the nail on the head. The "player of the match" thing is nothing to me. Simply the sign of a growing - albeit comparatively small - interest in women's sports.

The bigger issue to me is language and biology based. The insistence that sex and gender are not at all linked in the majority of cases and trying to make everything, even pregnancy, gender neutral is just a minefield with little actual rationale. It strikes me that people have found an idea where they can stomp their feet and say "you must agree with me otherwise you're xxxxx-phobic" and I don't think that's how it should actually work.
