And we didn’t accept mediocrity did we? The manager paid the price for it and we appointed Hughes

I agree with your comment. It's a football forum and I hope my comment didn't come across as patronising. Just seems to be a few on here who seem to know what's better for Charles Vernam than Vernam himself.

Again agree with your point. We always enter a new season with a sense of anticipation and hope.

As the team will include a number of new signings and others who need to regularly ‘up’ their game, there is no guarantee for City or indeed Lincoln.

However, even if Lincoln do well (and I have nothing against them), City will remain the larger club.

Clearly we are underachieving, until we are pressing for promotion in League One, or are promoted to the Championship.

Only asking because I don't know, but are Lincoln necessarily offering a better wage? I would imagine they would have one of the lower league one budgets (based on no knowledge whatsoever :) )

Compare with the Lincoln City figures.

In short according to those figures, Vernam is our sixth highest paid player on £124,800 per annum. If you directly compare with the salary of the sixth highest player in the Lincoln team, Adam Jackson who is on £182,000 per annum then simple arithmetic suggests a difference of £57,200. Double that if he gets a two year contract.

In the absence of any other figures, then they are a guide and they highlight the difference in the two budgets. If you can get other sums, then I would be open to considering them.:)

In his interview Sparks said the offers made match what the out of contract players have been offered elsewhere.

If you exclude them and drop down the Lincoln Wage structure two places, then Chris Maguire was on £100 a week less. So £176,800 per season compared to Vernam’s current £124,800. Still a difference of £54,000.

I accept that the figures may not be absolutely accurate. However over the whole team if we say a 5/10% margin of variance, then it is still a reasonable indicator.
As I said if anyone can come up with an alternative set of figures, then more than happy to compare and contrast.
On the balance, then I would think Vernam could earn around 50% more with a League 1 outfit.
Just as a matter of interest, which player's wage is incorrect, is it too high or too low? What sort of difference are you suggesting?

I can't say which one but it's nowhere near That's why I take these salary sites with a pinch of salt. Hey, it might be that the rest are bang on who knows.

So are they on £5,000 a week or £500? Are the figures an under or overestimate?

How do we know Lincoln want Vernam, just gossip. Surely they need a manager first, who might not even want him.

I agree it’s all speculation all we know is some haven’t signed yet and have offers from other clubs which have been matched. In the meantime with 4 signings we are getting on with preparations. If they decide to move others will come in and hopefully in total we will be stronger than before

I think the Barrow centre half is Paudie's replacement. similar age and stature. I liked Paudie but he is no Mcardle or Davies
