Yes it does but I’m comparing upper 2 with lower L1 in our “undecided” group of players. No comparison with Southampton and perennial “ cushion” payment specialists Norwich intended.

The problem lies with that business model it will eventually fail. Smith won’t sell cookery books for ever……Roger?

I think his comment was “worth to the club” . However its named, it’s generated income so it will certainly make a difference to the bottom line.

Thus seems to have moved on from what was originally relating Lincoln to Bradford, to be fair I'm partly responsible for it. Going back to the original point about league 1 and league 2, generally league 1 offer far better wages due to better sponsorship and TV deals. As it stands Lincoln offer.guaranteed league 1 football and arguably a better salary. Doesn't mean players will automatically go that club but I'd hazard a guess at least 8 out of 10 would go to play league 1 football as opposed to league 2.

Vernam can play at Pride Park, Oakwell, Hillsbrough etc next term too. Beats going to Barrow and Harrogate.

That's reminds me of last pre season. All the chat of Morecambe and Bradford swapping places, when Adams got the job.

Potential crowds of over 20,000 at pride park and Hillsborough. Plenty of big games in league 1 next season, just as there were last season. What do we have in league 2 next season? Stockport? Wrexham if they go up? Halifax lol.?

It does, not all master plans work?

At least we got rid of Mr Adams!

Absolutely no guarantees Mr Hughes will be anymore successful though.

Reading these boards and beyond, there is lots of confidence moving forward. Needs a dollop of realism, we are where we are for a reason.

First of all, Just wanted to say that these kind of signings are the type we need. Players who are young, Have potential, And can still improve. Its a polar opposite of the shit we’ve been doing in the last 5 years where we get 30+ year old rejects from Lg1 and Lg2 Teams

secondly, Ive seen this argument going on in multiple forums now an there’s a lot of bs

A player will base his move upon

    1) The Money - Thats the main one

    2) The ability to become a better player so they can move up the football pyramid (Which links into Point 3)

    3) Regular Football

    4) The league the potential club is in (which links to point 2)

    5) Location. For lower league players, Moving across the country isn’t ideal

    In that order

Then comes all the shit like playing in front of big crowds an stuff like that. That’s just PR bs said by every single player that signs for a club that is bigger than the one they were at

As with Parky somewhere along the long line of appointments we have to get it right, let's hope Hughes is that appointment, then the hard bit is keeping it going by backing your manager and hope he is happy with the challenge rather than what look greener pastures.

    Pretty much spot on.
For some who are lower half PL or top end Championship will be attracted to regular football but they'd be on a decent wage anyway.

    Agree with this point.

However, irrespective of our lower league history and the cheap season tickets, in my view we are a larger club than Lincoln, our mid table finish after a poor season, yet we still have a massive support.

Having said that clearly they are the better team, based on their position in League.

Going back to your post above, most players ‘follow the money!

Spot on. Its a short career and money is everything. Look at Wrexham and the signings they’ve made - prime examples.

well for a game at the end of a very poor season with absolutely nothing to play for we had an 18.000 plus gate do well that could be a regular thing next season probably more than the majority of league one gates

If Adams was still here I think it’d be a no brainer for Vernam and he’d be off, but Hughes being here now makes it a trickier decision.

Hughes is a bigger manager than most League One/Two players will get chance to work with in their short careers and we saw that time with Hughes with his arm around him on the pitch after the game they seem to get on well. Vernam came good for him in those latter matches.

I agree with the other posters saying, generally speaking, money is king, but if Sparks was right in his latest video and we are offering competitive deals to players, at least we can give them food for thought.

You’d be frustrated if you walked away from a promotion winning season here under Hughes, in front of 15k+ crowds, for a bang average season in and out of the team mid table in League One, but It comes down to what motivates you I guess - success or purely the money.

I think he's more than capable of doing that. He'll decide what's right for him, not folk on a football forum

All hypothetical though. If it Lincoln that is his eventual destination, at this moment they have just as much chance of success in their division as Bradford do as theirs. Don't forget Bradford fans were saying all these things last season when Adams was announced, that promotion was on the cards and excited by new signings. Have people forgotten how our CEO was not accepting mediocrity anymore?
Let's wait and see how the season starts first before we make talk of having a better season than teams in a division above us.

And your last two words are exactly why we are discussing it.
