Vernam will go where the money is and rightfully so it’s a short career, playing level will also come into it travel distance least likely when it’s not like it was with Marshall with him going to the other end of the country every week.

Sadly the club is currently less attractive and playing below the Lincoln’s of the world, it’s the clubs job to get us back above them. If Vernam goes best look to him, it’s how he’s replaced that counts.

Nope, I've said the distance issue is not going to be the reason he decides not to sign a new contract.
Also, I don't think he has any kids so not sure what that's got to do with anything.

Regardless......closer to home, same/more money, better level. It might only be 30 mins but thats an hour a day, 5/6 hours less a week sat in the car. Over a full 2 year contract....do the sums. Convenience will always be a factor not matter how small it is.

The Lincoln package is more appealling.

Whether it's Lincoln or somewhere else, or whether he decides to stay at City, I just don't think the travel/distance issue is going to be what clinches the deal - that's all I'm saying.

Ok so we cant rule out Plymouth then.

Deal clincher and factor are 2 different things. All things to be considered.

Totally agree. He either stays with us enthusiastically or he goes. His personal circumstances are nothing to do with us. We will offer him what we think he is worth to our club and if Lincoln can do better good luck to them although they only scraped through to avoid relegation.

A league higher. Yes. Less attractive? Debatable unless league position dictates attraction.
Just because hevwas born in Lincoln doesn't mean he lives there. For all we know he might live in Grassington or Harrogate. Who says Lincoln is close to where home is now.

Lincoln can offer him a better platform so they are more attarctive. L1 is above L2.

He lives in Grimsby. Mentioned a few times already.

Vernham is not messi, yes he had a good end to the season, but he is replaceable , as are all lower league footballers.
Prior to his season ending purple patch, he was average at best.

Yes playing higher up is often a more attractive proposition, also League 1 teams baring the really small clubs often have bigger budgets than league 2 clubs which usually means a better salary. As a 25 year old I’d be going to who will pay me most, like many he most likely still has bills, potentially mortgage etc.

I'd have liked him to stay, his late 6/7 game cameo showed what he is capable of but he'd been at the club 18 months, I would think we have made him an offer with regards what the club think he's worth and what he can bring to the squad if he decides to go elsewhere good luck to the lad.

Disagree. Lincoln can offer him league one football, that's all. They aren't going to offer him promotion or glory.

Guaranteed league 1 football is better than promotion from league 2.

He's yet another player that looks good when the sun is shining but disappears when the grounds get heavy. I know I keep going on about this but I've seen it so often in the many decades I've been watching football. The pitches are so much better these days but there are still a lot of players who either get injured or lose form on heavier ground. Vernam is a classic example. It's a factor that needs to be taken into consideration when recruiting but I'm not sure if it is.

And are we??? Weve been here before, summer after summer. There are no guarantees.

They can probably offer him more money too.

I made the original comment about his missus moving house so assume that’s aimed at me. For the record I’m in my 40s with 3 kids and in a professional responsible job, so I know all about grown up life and responsibility!!!

If money is the factor and it often is then these figures show some general difference. To be fair that is a marked difference. I would be happy to spend two years in Lincoln for the additional £143,000!

The average League One salary for a highest earner was £4,753.

The average highest-earner in League Two is on just over £114,000 per year. That comes in at little over £2,000 per week.
