Pretty quiet weekend on the transfers front across the division. I remember Parkinson said that there's always a spot in the window where everyone slows down to asses what they've brought in combined with what was left over and see if there are any more spots, which then ramps up around the first week of the season. Looks like we are in the middle of that.

Accrington added two teenage defenders on loan, one from Norwich the other from Birmingham. Jason Demetriou has left Newport after 300 appearances for the club to sign for Crewe. Newport have then brought in central defender Ryan Delaney who was released by Morecambe at the end of last season. Also Walsall have signed a young defender from non-league, so nothing too glamourous.

Jesse Debrah is turning into a fairly interesting story. Last week the former Halifax defender had his medical at Barnsley after watching their first few pre season games and spending time around the club. It was looking to be a done deal but Debrah hasn't signed his deal, after receiving late interest from Northampton and Notts County. It's thought that he has turned down Barnsley in favour of one of the two offers, both believed to have been a similar money offer from Barnsley.

Finally, it looks like Wrexham may well be bringing in their first American to the squad. They are on a pre-season tour at the moment and Parkinson has confirmed the club are in talks with an American based player. This has only been made possible by a very recent change introduced by the FA. The Football Association confirmed just last month that it had come up with a new “football solution” to come into effect this transfer window and combat new work permit regulations since the United Kingdom left the European Union. The regulations in place since the UK left the EU has meant that fewer foreign players can obtain work permits for clubs lower down the English pyramid.

As a result, clubs in League Two such as Wrexham are able to sign up to two overseas players per season who do not meet the regular Governing Body Endorsement (GBE) criteria approved by the Home Office.

 

I agree but I wouldn't be rushing. I really want to see where Pointon is at and what he is capable of. If he can deputise/offer alternative for Smith by playing alongside with Cook then I want to see it before we push him down the pecking order with a probable crap loan.

Appreciate he isn't a striker by trade but Hughes seems to think he could offer something there. Dylan Youmbi wasn't given a pro contract to lurk around in the stands either.

If we want kids to come through and progress then we have to start giving them a chance rather than defaulting to loans from the leagues above.

 

More important than formations to me is attitude Hughes saying we are going on the front foot this season. If he sticks to that and banishes the negative stuff of last season we have a chance

 

If we don't go up I can' see how Ryan could justify keeping Hughes, he'll have had 4 windows and good financial backing.

 

I am just little bit sensitive on the female front tbh. It seems a loud and aggressive lobby would like to extinguish biological females. Or a peadophile who immediately identifies as a woman to try and avoid a male prison. Well off topic now, I will have the mods after me.

Signed Odour on the basis that he plays LWB, just for the man himself to come out an say he doesn't play there. So we piss about at the start of the season before finally getting the lad from Wolves in

Signing Taylor who's been dogshit. Insisting with a back 3 an alienating the one CB we have who actually has a bit of pace. And now we're hearing that our Best CB might be off to Barnsley (An btw, Stubbs is a capable LG1 CB. Exeter fans loved him, they just couldn't rely on him because he was injury prone, thats why they let him go)

Not signing a back up to Cook (Smith doesn't count, their different players)

Signing a bunch of wingers when we don't even play with a system that suits them

Its just been a shambles. A lot of money has been pissed away this window, an if Hughes can't get a tune out of this bloated team by now, he's gonna have some difficult questions to answer in a months time

Why wouldn't you? Top of League One, Championship football on the horizon, presumably higher wages and life on the south coast. I'd have made exactly the same decision in his shoes.

I think we need to temper expectations on who we’ll bring in, I’m happy to eat my words but it feels like we get these sort of names branded about every season then reality hits when it’s some loan from Wolves or somewhere. Obviously there has been the odd exception such as Smallwood, but that’s an exception rather than the rule.

 

Williams is 5/6 years younger than Adam Clayton.

 

Only list he is on I wouldn't mention for legal reasons

 

You know what I suspect he was only coming for the money and it shows the measure of the lad if he is doing that in which case we're better off without him.

 

You can understand why the club say nothing until the contract is signed. Obviously leaked from his end to alert a club nearer home.
