I think his agent has been instrumental but @21years of age you are able to make your own decisions. He had two offers one from us and one from Plymouth. He made his choice.

 

Why wouldn't you? Top of League One, Championship football on the horizon, presumably higher wages and life on the south coast. I'd have made exactly the same decision in his shoes.

 

I understand the strong temptation but it may well have been wiser to stay at least until the end of the season and continue to improve. Then he really would be in the driving seat. How much do you believe that this lad improved due to MH +staff?

 

I don’t know tbh. If they offer more , players obviously go for the money 9/10 and don’t always consider the footballing aspect?

I had the same lifestyle choice and opportunity 25 years ago. Doubled my wages, pension contributions the lot. Not regretted it one jot, even though I miss my City…….Still. He’s maybe made the same decisions?

 

Absolutely Kev and I don’t think anyone blames the lad, but we need to look at things from our perspective. He chose Plymouth over us so we move on, plenty more fish in the sea. In the lower leagues there are plenty of talented free agents every season, just look at Lewis last summer, we certainly don’t need to go after ex’s it’s a big wide world out there.

I liked Wright, but we won’t remember him in 5 years most likely.

 

That's why footballers have agents when you listen to some being interviewed they are not the brightest, plus his agent would have got a fee for his input.

Short career though. Footballers have to back their ability and take the chance when its there, for the most part.

 

Judging by the fact we'l most likely be in the same division next season, id say we need to make the following signings :
LB - Ridehalgh - Decent but not athletic enough to play Full Back in this system
CB - Cover for when Stubbs gets injured, and to replace Crichlow
RB - Personally I think it could be improved on. Halliday is too indecisive for my liking
CM - I think everybody knows the score with this one
Wingers - Would like to see Banks here next season, don't think it'l happen. Need someone to hold that Left Wing position, its been a problem for us all season
ST - Someone to take the burden off Cook.

Looks like its gonna be a busy summer

 

We've a lot of under achievers sitting on three year deals on our books at the moment. Somehow I think we'll try and move them on, if they don't try to leave themselves. Next season could see the likes of Wrexham tearing up the league. When you look at how Stockport have performed, it's easy to see why this might happen. Gillingham will be stronger as could Swindon. Hughes has to have a squad he can totally trust, not one where a fair number have made less than 10 starts in all competitions.

 

I think Halliday is easily good enough. He's been one of the better and most consistent players this season in my opinion

 

Absolutely correct. He was badly missed at Swindon, both by the team and his effectiveness as a primary outlet and Banks individually .

 

It is a little worrying that some on the longer contracts have made minimal impact: Oliver, Young, East, there are probably more. Whichever division we are in, and my gut says League Two sadly, it is going to have impact on recruitment this time surely.

 

I reckon our chances of keeping hold of Cook have got a lot slimmer. He will get offers from league 1 and I wouldn't blame him if he goes for it.

 

Just been thinking exactly the same, he knows what he is capable of if he were to be playing for a club with ambitions ......

 

What I don’t understand are the lengths of contract given. 3 years is unheard of at our level and 18 months for a 37 year old? Who sanctioned these contracts? I’m not confident of MH or Gent recruitment wise as we’ve signed a lot of duffs and again, it feels like yet another rebuild next season.
