He's never been a City player, and his ability hasn't changed now he is signing for someone else. Call me old fashioned but a player isn't ours until he has signed, and on that basis I never got attached to him like some of our fans appear to have done without anything being confirmed.

 

Well I can agree on the ability thing - that remains the same. I suppose you can look at the other side of the coin though - 29, no resale value, will have been high wages etc.

 

Less travelling would have played a part in him changing his mind.

 

You can understand why the club say nothing until the contract is signed. Obviously leaked from his end to alert a club nearer home.

There was nothing to say he would have settled here, he was obviously not 100 percent and bradford is 4 hours from Gillingham area where he sounds to be based. His career looks very south biased it was a punt to get him here based on the bucks on offer.

 

Agree, but I am worried about due diligence on players. How many times have we said you need to be of good character to play for City and know how to dig in when the going gets tough. I am sure the club will be well and truly P’d off, but I suspect they might have been able to spot this kind of character and be more cautious. We don’t want players who think they are doing us a favour just for turning up or fretting about being miles away from home. We pay good money, the rest comes from the players themselves.

 

Frustrating thing for us is we’re back to the drawing board on finding a CM type we desperately need.

Bet East was well chuffed when he heard this had fallen through!

 

I heard of a similar situation with a certain John Radford back in the day, not sure how true it was though.

 

We need better than East or Gillead Olly and another B signing won’t cut it.

 

Yep - thats a bit of a worry isnt it. I dont blame him choosing Gillingham - close to home and will be paying him more money. But he was obviously never invested in City, our ambitions etc - he was coming for a pay day and nothing else.

Impossible to avoid. His agent will have called up Cadden (Sun journo) and given him a little exclusive. It was basically a last minute sale advert for his client.

Without doubt Harris had them looking a decent side in April even though they scored deep into injury time, overall they deserved a point
