Adams signed Kelleher and Staunton has only ever played senior football at centre half.

Maybe Adams might not fancy the options but he's either signed or offered new contracts to the majority (if rumours are to be believed) so he got difficult questions to answer if we don't have competitive back up in that area.

Get another striker in. Doesnt look too shabby to me.

 

I really like Staunton but dont see him as a L2 CB. Neither does Adams so it seems. LB seems more likely but he is battling with Foulds for that back up. Although not sure he has the pace to succeed there either. He isnt getting in at CM either. Nowhere near.

Maybe a stint in NL to find himself required. Or send him up the leagues to play for a Championship Under 23 side. I know Brentford were scouting him last season.

We could have another McBurnie situation on our hands.

 

With how tight cash is in the lower leagues i wouldn't be surprised to see a club come in for Staunton with a similar deal to the McBurnie transfer. Even if it doesn't work out for the buying club what have they lost? A few hundred thousand? Nothing to prospecting club like Brentford or Peterborough.

 

Id take £200k and 20% sell on.

 

It would be a shame if that was the case, but I can’t see how or where he’s going to get in. He’s played very little football in the last 10 months when he really should be getting 90 minutes under his belt most weeks. I’m not sure of the ruling for the Pap trophy but maybe a handful of those on the sideline will get game time there. Staunton must be rue the day McCall rushed him back too early.

Yep, second team in a row to target our right side, Stevenage and Mansfield .Orient will do the same. Don’t mistake these observations has having a “go” , it’s not wrong to identify weaknesses. That’s what the objective is, as we all know.? Yes sides will get chances, it’s up to Adams to identify our weakness and nullify even more, opposition, opportunities to threat.

 

On second thoughts …

I called for a utility defender as “ still required”, however in hindsight, I do now think we have enough solid cover already.

However , it may not be long before the middle being an area of concern. Cookie limping off on Sat was a worry, (This “ he was tired” is balls..he was limping and called for the physio as soon as he went down on his knees and limped all the way back to the dug out) .

Hopefully it was a twinge, but the scenario of Cookie injured, Sutton injured, Watts suspended through a rash tackle, and Songo’o still not 100%game fit becomes a real worry ? That’s why I did suggest more cover in the middle. I think two of the above absent at any one time could be problematic.

And of course a forward to support Cook.

4 games in and we have already lost, through injury, Eisa, Sutton, Threlkeld and Angol. Bad luck could easily see us losing two more, perhaps? A third of the “ expected” Matchday squad out for whatever reason…

 

what I was sayings is that’s how Mansfield have played against every team they go down the left with 2 wingers so it doesn’t matter who’s at right back they get outnumbered

 

Cooke had a dead leg. He might miss Saturday, not sure, but if only a dead leg he won't be out long if at all

 

To be fair to him and the club, the reason he’s played so little football in the 2021 is injury. He’s not going to get a lot of minutes this season unless the first choice centre halves are injured or suspended, with that in mind Staunton and Sikora will probably be out on loan in September.

 

True but these are not long term bar Angol. Squad with 24 men is already equipped to deal with a small number missing.

 

Without doubt it looks like Stevenage and Mansfield preferred to play wide down their left now wether that is because they believe C-D was our weak link or their attacking strength is their left hand side it looks like Adams is quite happy to continue to play the lad at right back, and it's not worked out too bad with regards our start to the season, in Adams we trust.

 

We're getting what it looked like we'd get outscoring the opposition with less possession but it's a little bit worrying we haven't had a clean sheet yet

We have had clean sheets in 25% of our league games

 

I forgot we got a 0 0 to be honest

 

I must admit, being an ex defender myself, I love a clean sheet. However, as long as the trend of scoring more goals than the opposition continues, not bothered
