It does my head in when fans accuse other fans on here of just accepting mediocrity. Here's the reality. We ALL want the best for City. We ALL want the best manager, players, board and backroom staff. But...it's ridiculous not to be realistic. We are where we are, and it's all about possibilities. For me, the best possible manager we could get right now, for what we need, is Derek Adams. I hope he proves me and the rest of us right. I desperately hope he, along with Lee Turnbull, can not only identify the best players we could possibly sign for the level that we're at, but get them over the line as signings. Yes, it's takes a real stated ambition to get out of the khazi league. Both Adams and Sparks have both been resolute that is their aim for 2021-2022. They of course will be judged by their actions. But let's put this happy clappers nonsense to bed. We ALL want the best for this club.

    Rather Cook than Stockton.

Cook deserved a contract offer from us.

It feels like Adams (and the club) have gone about things properly and in a thoroughly professional manner this pre-season.

He brought in the people he wanted early, got them involved and understanding the club and the pattern of play. Gave those already here a chance through half games or full games to show what they can do and how they might fit in and then review what further actions are needed. After all the window is open for one more month!

It's a far cry from previous omni-shambles where we have people coming and going, trialists in and out week after week and some kind of speed juggle puzzle competition where we have no idea if it will work out or not.

Excellent stuff so far and well done DA and the club.

Everything about the club seems so much more professional. Remember last summer with Stuart saying there’s nothing in the pipeline and we’ll just have to see what crops up. Julian Rhodes our CEO not communicating with the customers. We seem in a much better place now.

We have enough L2 players, if promotion is a serious aim we need better than that, we need players who relegate Sutton and Watt to the bench.

I know some people on here don't like O'Donnell but this has to be one of the most bizarre suggestions I've seen.

Wouldn't be a Bradford City transfer window if we weren't linked with Agard.

If I get time, I'll create a thread for analysis of our attacking output last year from the various data sources that are public.

But to weigh into the striker discussion, Cook and Novak both performed very well compared to their expected goals last year. The simplest way to look at it was that their conversion rate was relatively high, but as a team we didn't create enough chances (and, as it happens, xG from most other players was below the league averages, despite City overperforming xG as a team). Cook was one of the better performers in the league for just finishing chances, even compared to Doyle and Vaughan.

I know xG isn't everyone's cup of tea and it's not the be-all-and-end-all of discussion on who's good and who's not. It doesn't analyse players' ability to bring others into play, to create space or all manner of things that are best observed in person, but it does offer a window into one aspect of performance. It can be argued (and I didn't see enough games) that Cook didn't get in enough positions to score, he didn't provide enough for others, but in sheer finishing terms he was one of the better League 2 players out there last year.

Again, on this chart, the further above the line you are, the 'better' the conversion, in simple terms (debatably, the further to the left, the more impressive that is because the expected deviation from the average is lower):

Looking at Morcambe, they had a lot of player performing to an expected level, but without single standout performers. Again, this is the analysis of a simpleton (me) and not an expert, but my initial thought is that they've created well and played with a style that has clicked well as a team. It basically looks like a side performing well across the board.

To add to this, I've only looked at last year's figures (because I couldn't get to games), obviously better patterns can be gained by looking across seasons, and no doubt City's team will be looking at this for each of their options, as well as all manner of other data available to them.

TLDR summary, whether it's Cook or Stockton or someone else, I wouldn't be too concerned - I don't think that the name of the nominal #9 will define our season, so much as the ability to get the rest of the team creating chances for those forwards and making good positions for other players to get involved in the scoring. If Adams feels comfortable working with Stockton and feels he brings more to the team, I think we definitely need to believe in his judgement to do so.

Interesting. Admitted he had a say in the retained list and the new deals before he was announced.

Happy with Cook signing based on what he did last summer. Wants another number 9.

Didnt comment on Stockton. Skipped that speculation.

    Wants a squad of 24.

Impressed with Sikora. Room for improvement but will come with training for first team.

Wanted Foulds at Morecombe. Spoke to Roberto Martinez about him who had high hopes for him. Likes his versatility as LB and CB.

Club have made a number of signings nobody knows about. Just waiting on medicals so can announce.

4 new signings to make the get to 24. Havent looked at loan market yet.

Sam Hornby - cant speak about him until its agreed.

Will be speaking to ROD and players about new captain role.

Yann Songo'o - cant answer on him. Didnt rule it out though. Suggested up to the player reading between the lines.

No interest in current players from other clubs. Shock!

Seems happy with back room appointments. Made by club, not him. Happy though.

Assistant manager - working on it but hasnt decided. Announcement soon.

Mark Trueman - very good coach. Understands the club and a big part to play. Met him earlier this week.

Good interview - presenter pressed him and asked the right questions.

    3 Bradford 5 3 1 1 3 10

Songo has only returned resently we lost Angol who was looking good, not seen anything of Eisa yet and we 3rd in the league after playing teams Exeter, Mansfield, Stevenage, Orient who many would fancy being there or there abouts come the end of the season.
Lincoln missed out in the play offs to become a Championship side, watching tonight you could see why, clinical infront of goal that being the main difference, we played some decent stuff but once again we're poor in the final third.
In the greater scheme of things is the Papa John Trophy important, of course its not, 3 points come Saturday maybe some will realise there is only one goal this season and that's getting out of this god damn awful league.

Harsh on Jamie. He was very very young and wasnt a professional footballer at the time. He learned his lesson and became a model citizen, helps other to avoid the path he took. No comment on Beagrie, but Jamie is a very good example of how to turn your life around from being a sheep to being a leader.
