Summer 2021 Transfers

Sutton and Cooke are both 24, and Watt is 21. They've all shown capability over the last 12 months, with Adams in charge I'm sure that they will all continue to develop. That's a good position for us to be in.

 

Watt try’s the difficult passes more than most players he’s a very good young player who’s only going to improve he would get in every team in our division

 

Yet. He's still young and learning. He'll benefit from having Adams as his boss.

 

It's all about risk and reward. If Watt played cautiously and didn't try those big passes or moves, fans would be slating him for being too in his shell. With a player like this, you need to allow them to fail now and again to succeed in the long term. I'm happy with him developing with us right now.

 

Regardless he was where FCD should have been (several times).

It happends in football a player is caught out of position because he may have been attacking when the move broke down, but you can't blame him for not cutting out the cross when Paudie was the covering defender.

 

Definitely room in the squad for a lad who puts in 100% has some passion and isn't slow! He can get himself up and down the pitch sharpish. He'll prove to be a good squad player this season I think.

 

Another centre half?

Canavan,
POC,
Staunton,
Kelleher,
FCD,
Foulds,
Sikora.

I make that 7 within the first team squad competing for 2 places. How many exactly do you think we should have?

 

Pretty sure Threlkeld can play there as well if needed.

 

Two of those need to be going on loan to NL or L2 clubs.

 

To be fair to Park, considering Adams doesn't see Staunton as a centre half, there's only 2 on that list who are good enough imo. Kelleher didn't impress in pre season so I think we may struggle if Paudie or Canavan were injured/suspended. Personally I'd send out Sikora on loan and use his place to bring in a better backup.

 

Funnily enough I do understand that lol. However he was caught out of position multiple times, sometimes with a simple ball over that Paudie then went to cover leaving the centre short. He is not good enough yet and the sooner Threlkeld is back the better. Paudie has a better record of cutting stuff out than FCD from my watching this season and last.

However, some folk were having a go at Canavan when he was the only CB in the area due to this.

 

Don’t get mixed up with “ having a go” and pointing out errors. Two entirely different things. If managers can’t be critical, they ain’t managing properly. Do you honestly think Adams et al don’t see what we can see?

 

Did you not take notice of Saturdays game ? Mansfield’s tactic is to attack down the left they play 2 wingers that side creating overloads we defended well against it we can’t stop over teams having the odd chance

I wasn't having a go just pointing out for C-D to not be in his natural full backs position he may have been overlapping, I'll have a look at Dmitry's video and get back to you why he was not covering their wireman but no matter where our why he was not there Paudie should have stopped the cross, he didn't leaving Hawkins with a simple finish as Canavan got no where near him.
But we fought back and took all 3 points so we have to take the positives, I spoke to Threlkeld before the Oldham game and he said 2 weeks so he should be there of there abouts.

 

I don’t think CB is a big issue. Any strengthening there is wasting vital resources at the moment. I am still not fully convinced we’ve nailed RB tbh - the jury is still out on Threlkeld until he has chance to prove himself, and that’d be the only def position I’d consider strengthening. But with Angol out, a new striker obviously takes precedence.

 

I don't think it's any coincidence that albeit the season is young our stand out players so far have been players that were already here, Adams knows his sh1t and saw this and I bet was a big influence on him jumping ship on L1 to come here and get more from our current talented squad plus obviously add to it, last season we had so many good players for this level under perform it was criminal.

 

CB is a no for me. We have 7 players who can play there. Cant rule out Kelleher as not good enough based on a couple of friendlies. He hasnt had a proper chance yet and folk ruling him out! There is also Matty Foulds as an option.

A target man is a must. Im not entirely convinced we need another CM. Id prefer us to wait until January and assess then. Sutton, Songo, Watt, Staunton, Evans, Cooke and Scales is surely enough. Gilliead can play number 10 if Cooke drops back.

Like Adams said, a squad of 26 without injuries means 8 will be missing out on match day. Eisa, Threlkeld and Sutton wont be injured for too much longer. Another 3 weeks and we are well stocked again.

All depends who leaves on loan though.
