Good to see the club planning ahead and I think we've a good chance to go into it on a very positive footing.

The question of what we need will largely be dictated by which division we're in, how some of the newer players fare and the contract situations of a couple of players.

What I would say though, is we still lack a midfield powerhouse. I'd love us to bring in Bahamboula from Oldham. A brilliant player, box to box, physical, has goals in him and can play up front. Contracted to the summer with Oldham but has an option of an extra year. I think he'd be perfect here.

We'll need to resolve the full back spots too. I don't think we'll need to bring in more than 4 or 5 though.

The striker situation needs work. Novak is out of contract in the summer and I'm not sure Cook is what we need in our set up. If by some miracle we did go up I'd like us to look at someone like Louis Moult who has hardly played this season at Preston. Out of out price range wage wise in league 2.

It's so refreshing and encouraging to think we actually have a proper recruitment plan in place now going forward. No reliance on agents getting in touch offering us the players nobody else wants, but a list of targets we have identified, with a couple of backups in every position in case our first choice doesn't come off.

Agree. On the back of the hard truth podcast, I like the lingo of Sparks.... So if a player is here for cash or using the same dated clichés (big club, ground) and don't have that mentality he talks of, we walk away. No matter the credentials of the player.

    Next candidate please.

It's lovely to be looking forward to a game on a Saturday afternoon, with a knowledge we are prepared for today and preparing for the future (finance director, player recruitment).

My newspaper today has a piece about Chelsea and the number of loan players they have farmed out this season.
It is an incredible 33 of which 17 are in England and 16 in europe. They have 3 at Accrington !
Ive brought this up before but I dont think Ive seen this regime's attitude to incoming loans.
Seems to me we would now be a very attractive destination for Prem clubs in addition to the new and strong relationship we are
    building with Leeds

Take it this thread is probably now the best one for 'player watch' - mentioned young Josh Davison previously when he was on loan at Woking from Charlton and he had something about him, he is now at Forest Green on loan and seen he has bagged a couple already - inc at Newport today. Worth keeping tabs on

To be fair we could send all our loan players back and it wouldn't really make a difference. We seem to have gone a different route with targeting permanent signings and bringing through young players. I like this model, you have a better chance of benefitting with your own players in the long term. Peterborough are similar in that they don't use loan players, only on rare occasions.

He’s out of our league whilst we’re at this level in afraid, someone at the top end of league one will be in for him in the summer maybe higher.

You would think that a nippy fox in the box type striker would be on the summer shopping list. Not counting the Don, who is clearly on his way out, we currently have two number nines in Cook and Novak, and a deeper lying striker who can create his own chances, in Rowe, plus Billy Clarke who is more of a classic no 10. A goal poacher would give us the full house.
Obviously some of those may not be retained next season.

I agree and think the whole culture of young Academy player loans has changed since we had the likes of Josh Cullen et al. A lot of Lg 1 and 2 clubs seem to be signing on the basis of squad fillers, just in case of injuries, suspensions etc. Another consequence of the silly salary cap? Bryce is going to be a good player for example, but even when he comes back from injury, I can't see T&S using him as anything other than back up. Burrell, similar. In truth, a la Peterborough, I don't think T&S, Sparks and Turnbull want to take this route anyway. Much better to develop our own young players and sign proper experienced players to bring them on. These days, short termism in player recruitment doesn't work.

Not sure that’s right he was just a name on the list and now that position is not a priority unless we move anybody out
