Bolton were getting use to the the league as I say.

Always going up them. Always! You buy quality to succeed.

Journeyman is a strange adjective to use for someone about to see out his 3 year contract with us and has already indicated he would like to stay longer.

    I thought he was Irish.
What do you think Sparks meant when he said look at Morecambe (and Newport) Fordy?

Early in the season Bolton were getting used to L2 and while they were doing that they were also rubbish. Yes they spent money on quality but not until January.

That you can do things on the cheap. Don't need a star etc.

Problem is Morecambe and Newport don't have the quality and for me only up there because of the strange season with games back to back.

It's quality that will get you out of this league. We had it last season but unfortunately we had Bowyer and Rhodes.

Good point. Love Fordy to bits but he does tend to go off on one, especially when it comes to Ryan Sparks. All guys in his position use Buzz Words, however wet behind the ears they are, it comes with the job. When he mentioned Morecambe and Newport it was after he said we definitively won't have one of the top 3 budgets next season. He was saying look where those two clubs are on very small budgets, we will be in a better place than them budget wise. Sometimes Fordy spends too much time trying to read between the lines.

No he wasn't Fordy, he was saying you don't have to be the biggest spenders, there is a difference.
You are correct that we need quality players and one player we do have who has quality is Danny Rowe and I have a feeling that he won't be the answer. He isn't a target man (which he openly admits), he also doesn't have pace, something that you yourself keep saying we need. He's a bit of a luxury player which is probably why he was at AFC Fylde for so long.

Ask yourself why he is saying it? No need to say he it. Trying to lower expectations.

The biggest spenders do tend to get to the top but you need quality.

Bradford City have the average base players. We need 4-5 now that can walk straight into the team that are better than what we have got.

I’m not as bad as some thinking throwing money at it is ambitious and will solve our problems, but if Bolton go up we will be the biggest club in the league so why wouldn’t fans expect a top 3 budget? I fully accept money bags Salford will throw money at it again but after that who would we as the biggest club the the league seriously expect to outspend us? I didn’t listen to the interview so won’t comment and will leave it to the board other than to say if we’re already being prepared to not have a top 3 budget when the second biggest club in the league will be a Port Vale or Swindon then it’s a bit of a worry. Because every other club has suffered through Covid not just us.

He said it because he was replying to a question about recruitment plans and saying spending big doesn't bring guarantees of success, which we all know it doesn't, especially if big money signings are bad Apple's in the dressing room.

Bolton are under a transfer embargo until the summer, they haven't paid money for anyone and 6 of their 9 January signings are loans.

We need to recruit players who add quality to the first XI, scratch below the surface and the squad is still weak. We need a bench of players of the quality of Cooke or Canavan. Not a bench of kids and a treatment room of Zeli Ismails and Harry Pritchards.

As he games pan -out, it becomes more evident that we'd have been in and around play-off spots, no guarantee of promotion.
Bolton is the team we've to aspire to if we want near certainty of promotion next season.

On the premise that we don't hit the lottery and go up this season i expect us to go up automatically next season. No ifs or buts. How we set out to do it is down to the CEO and management but anything less than promotion is abject failure.

it’s not really true though is it.

    Man City
    Norwich/Watford
    Sunderland
    Tranmere

All these teams are top or near the top and have spent money or have players on big wages.

Sparks compared the situation to bloody Morecome.

Who is is say the big named signings were big Apples? Doyle and Vaughan for example seem to be doing well we’re they are.

We could handle the quality signings.

If we want to be like Morecombe we won’t be going up anytime soon. Compare us to Bolton or Tranmere not Morecombe.

Bradford City lack quality players and that is clear.

    Morecambe, it’s Morecambe.

Money spent doesn’t matter, money spent on the right players matters, the shite signed like BRE, Riley, Wright and so on shows that.

    Every club makes poor signings!!

Bradford City had poor signings and poor managers.

In football it mainly shows that those with the biggest wage bill do well.

By the law of averages thats true otherwise clubs wouldn't spend any money. There are clubs who buck the trend that are well run under strict budgets but these become less the further up the league ladder you go.

Season we got relegated we were top 5 on wage spend.

its not how much you spend its how you spend.
