If I was reading between the lines like Fordy does I would say that was what Sparks was getting at NOT preparing us for failure like Fordy wants us to think.

    Seriously.

What the season we have Edin as CEO, Collins as manager, then Hopkins then Bowyer. That season?

You spend money on quality you get better reward. That's just life.

No, I believe he's trying to lower exceptions. Not saying he doesn't want us to go up. Damn right he does but I believe he's trying to say we might sign players you haven't heard of.

Look, for me Bradford City lack quality and we need now to be signing 4-5 quality players that will make a difference. If we don't then we will be in div 2 for years and years to good. Bradford City currently are not a good team.

I would have sincerely hoped my employer, in my last year before retiring, would have given me a £50,000 pay rise . Alas it was not to be.
Good grief it’s not an old players benefit club!!!

The lad "from como" is a centre back. I'm not really sure why everyone thinks he's a replacement for wood.

Eoin Doyle was reportedly a "bad apple" by the naysayers when he was here yet he's probably getting promotion twice in successive years.

Perhaps (or most likely) the failing is with the club in not managing to get the best out of these players rather than the player himself?

You see this is where you and me are very similar. We both want the same things and most of what you say I agree with but then you make an off the cuff comment almost as if you are trying to get a reaction.
Actually thinking about it that also sounds like me, especially at work, I get managers walking away from me trying to work out if what I just said was supportive or sarcasm.
I agree with you on making quality signings but that doesn't mean it has to be someone everyone has heard of. When we signed Doyle he was a quality signing and if we signed him for next season he would be a quality signing but only if he fitted our system. When he was here some said he didn't work hard enough, that's b**ll***s. We never played to his strengths, he's no target man. The Doyle thing is why I don't think Danny Rowe is going to be here long. The lad Mullin? How many would have said Who? if we had signed him. Cambridge just worked out for him.
That's how it works some times, the right fit.

When Bradford City had Doyle let’s not forget he was our leading goal scorer in div 1.

As I say we had clueless managers that couldn’t get the best out of any player really.

Doyle is a quality signing in this league. He got Swindon up and will get Bolton up!

Vaughan is a quality signing in this league also.

Now signing unknowns for me you need top coaches because you need to take them too another level. We have far too many players that need to kick on.

We need quality now and this is why I think Sparks comments were wrong.

You won't find me disagreeing with you there mate.
The Vaughan/Doyle situation shows how important man management and coaching are. A good management team should have been able to manage their personalities and coach the team to play to their strengths, both different types of player but both had quality about them.
Doyle's no target man but Vaughan was well capable of leading from the front physically.
Other clubs must have looked at Bradford City having them on their books and thought what an opportunity Bradford had.

Doyle is just one of many players that have emphatically underlined the same issue: don't sign players in isolation, sign a squad.

Parky would have never, ever signed Doyle, and at no point have we had a team that would have suited him either.

    Dreadful signing every which way.

Vaughan probably should have worked out better. He could score goals with our style of play, but we didn't manage him properly while he was here - just like a lot of other clubs in his long career.

Doyle is one of the best signings a club can make because hes easy to get the best out of.

What I mean by that that is Doyle just needs players around him in the box and you look to pass to them there and he will score. You only need to see most of his goals to see that. It's not hard.

Problem comes when you think he should be linking up play, beating players of shooting in the top corner from 30 yards.

Vaughan has scored goals where hes been.

Look Bowyer was Bradford City's problem not the players.

Doyle just needs the RIGHT players around him because he's a specialist.

If you have the wrong players, you get what we got.

    Nothing.

Those players were rubbish, made even worse by a poor recruitment strategy. We need a team of apples not apples and oranges.

look at Doyle, he struggled as we used him as a target man. Used correctly he’s easily best poacher in league.

you spend quality you get better reward? Like Salford?

    Spot on but we failed.

Let's not now think quality players don't work. Fans need to higher their exceptions from this club and we certainly need better players.

The recruitment was fine but the managers were not. We need quality mate.

    Salford are doing well.

They came up last season and finished midtable. Now still in midtable but was around the play offs all season.

If they got their next manager right they will go up next season.

The writing was on the wall when Bowyer played him behind Donaldo and Vaughan as a 10 in the away game at Grimsby. Knew then he had no idea what he was doing.

Salford are doing well? Think you need to have a word with old G Nev because he clearly thinks they aren't.

The system and style of play was far more important than the players in terms of Doyle's time here.

Players like Cooke, Donaldson, Vaughan and McCarten should have been enough to get a decent return out of Doyle if used correctly.
