Was available for free from Scunthorpe a couple of years ago and hoped we might sign him but ended up at Fleetwood

 

This is a problem a lot of Lg 2 clubs are going to come across with the current salary cap. The Conference clubs - and particularly those who have money - don't have a cap, so there will be a number of players who could see a thousand or more on their weekly wage rather than signing for a Lg 2 club. Fylde, Stockport, Eastleigh et al. Next question - why would you want to play in the Conference instead of League 2? Because you'd be hoping to go up into League 2 with an ambitious club that has money, and will continue to pay you on your existing contract once you've gone up. And frankly, if you were offered a thousand quid a week more in your job...? Well, go figure.

 

Cap was removed a few months ago due to PFA.

GK-would prefer ROD was out of contract rather than Hornsby but there we go. Think Hornby may want to change his hand elsewhere so we’ll need another
LB-will need a Wood replacement as expect he’s off. Foulds as back up.
CB-fine, especially if AOC signs on reduced term.
RB-what has happened to Hossnah? Seems a bit fishy. Anyway need competition for FCD.
CM-need an alternative for Watt and Sutton-a ball winner who can make a pass. Also back up for Cooke-possibley a loan? I reckon we can get a decent you 10 from a higher club.
Wingers-need another 1 on perm, don’t think will be too much of an issue, probably a loan 4th choice too
FW-keep Cook, seems good enough. Then 2 more, quicker lad and probably a loanee. Maybe the lad from Boreham Wood finally!
I make that 7 players if AOC stays. Probably a couple on loan.
Those out of contract probably on decent wages so frees up some budget.
I wouldn’t mind Clarke getting another year-as a back up but think he’s a good player for the squad

Look, people need to stop being of the @Park bantam mindset of thinking al our players are great. Fact is most of the current 11 are not good enough hence why we find ourselves where we are in the league and finished outside the play offs last season.

I want a miles better right back. a midfielder that can replace Sutton or Watt, a better AM than Cooke, a new LB and 1 winger and 1 forward plus a better keeper than ROD.

Keeping the likes of AOC and Billy Clarke is so pointless. Remember we have Staunton that can replace AOC in the squad.

I think Watt will be sold. I think Wood is off.

We'll most likely be in this division next season, and if we want out of it, without the variables of luck and a good scrap to get in the play-offs etc..
Then we've to recruit like Bolton have, they're head and shoulders above every other side in league two, if the season had started three months ago, they'd win it at a canter.

 

I’d prefer a better 10 in place of Clarke. If AOC goes we need another centre half though don’t we or can the lad from Como play there?

agree Fordy-the squad is probably mid table, playoffs with luck but I’d rather not rely on luck

Bradford City lack quality being like Morecombe won't get us up.

If the season had started 3 months ago we’d be up there with them.

 

But fall away because we haven't got the QUALITY in our squad overall.

Bolton's slow start was like most clubs that come down to div 2 from 1 just getting used to the league.

Our slow start was because we were rubbish.

 

Bolton were also rubbish.

Literally any Bolton fan will tell you their January window boosted them immensely - it doesn't look like they're wrong, either.
