Think it likely we will be able to keep Ball and O'Brien. Payne is more doubtful, but if Payne doesn't return in January, then I think a revitalised McCartan could do a job for us, especially now Rahic has departed and we have new management and a positive environment at City.

 

More likely we will keep Ball. He can't go to a third team and I can't see him walking back into the Rotherham first team.

Payne possible ball doubt it already played for Rotherham and us so can't play for another team this season and not in the future plans at Rotherham so likely to be with us for the campaign

 

Yep, but he'd be swapping a potential and probable Champions season for one of just "staying up". Tbh I can see him resisting any recall and we might be better trying to extract some cash from Lincoln who I think will do very well in L1 next season.

 

Lincoln offered us £75k apparently in the summer we rebuffed but agreed to a loan as the club saw potential in him. Whether that gets changed in jan time will tell.

Really? I did not know that, I like McCarten but lower league men don't usually change clubs for money, and we messed up on his valuation. We should have taken the £75k IMO.

Maybe Lincoln City have more money than us? Their ST's are £380 for adults, 18-21 @ £265 and juniors £95 and yet they sold out completely for this season.

Maybe, maybe not. But we sure as Hell want some money.
Take him back, and 'force' Lincolns hand into a bid. Failing that - IF he's made such an impact in League Two .... perhaps another Club will 'bid' for him ?

 

We have a whole bunch of players who aren't quite good enough for first team football

Patrick, Riley, Seedorf, Devine, Isherwood, Gibson etc. They are reserve players who shouldn't even make the bench unless they are ripping it up in reserve games.

Im not sure McCarten fits in with those, but he was too expensive for what he is. This squad needs a trim and hopefully Jan will be the start of it.
