I think so far before the hard part Bowyer Haa judged it right with the retained list. Caddis would have been good but expensive and not guaranteed a start and I think keeping the three younger midfielders will help with the squad

Offering the likes of Anderson, Devine & Colville contracts makes sense to me. In the past each of them have shown ability to be good squad players, and potentially (hopefully - if they sign) maybe more.

A season in League two is long. Lots of midweek games, travel and that’s before the cup games we’ll be involved in. We need a squad with a mix of youth/potential with hunger and the ability of potentially play various positions and roles when called upon. If these three are available at a cost effective price, then it’s a good decision IMO.

Colville has shown glimpses inbetween injuries. Not sure about Anderson, coming in to a doomed side is hardly a good starting point. Devine won't make it.

Pretty sure transfers can only be made from 1 June so we'll have a wait to see if any contracted players leave.

I think you'll find it's slightly earlier than that. After the various lists have been submitted to the EFL (key date is 3rd Saturday in May), those who have been released or are out of contract and have been made an offer can talk to other other clubs and 'sign' for them. But they are still employed by their current club until 30 June and the registration with the new club doesn't take effect until then.

If you have a good memory, when Billy Knott signed for us in 2014, we announced his signing in May but formally he wasn't really ours until 1 July. There appears to be a gentlemen's agreement around some of these dates once the lists have been published!

As we predicted - this is just the first draft of people being told they don't have a future at City. Expect those offered contracts : Coleville and Devine to either accept or reject (as Caddis supposedly did), and then expect other players who ARE under contract to be told that they are free to talk to other clubs, or they are part of the first team plans.

It's a case of "as you were" with Wright and Riley in so much as they were told they could leave in the last window (unless Wright has now played his way into GB's plans), and I suspect GB has now added plenty more onto that list.

Then there's the likes of Akpan and Scannell who will probably look for a move, as they are "too good" for league 2. Relegation release clauses doesn't mean they automatically get released, can sometimes means they are allowed to talk to other clubs to manufacture a move.

And then there's Reeves and Robinson. Both obviously with problems - both problems we don't really know about. What happens to them?

Would love to be in GB's boots, but at the same time I'd also be feeling the pressure a bit if those he does want to leave, don't. I also bet he's mentally preparing himself for that budget meeting with Herr Rupp!

I think he's been terrible for 18 months, but that shouldn't mean he's now put in the same category of the likes of Chicksen

That's true. We actually got 1 decent season from NKP regardless of whether everyone else made him look good or not. Whereas Chicksen was utter shite from day 1.

It's about 64 games usually isn't it? Once you've added in the play offs, a decent run in the check-a-trade and all the games to get to the League Cup final.

If you'd put that originally I'd have "liked" and fully agreed with your post. I still don't agree he was one of our "best" players as you put it but he did have a good season after a slowish start and even upto this season I've willingly tried to defend him but as it's worn on it just became an impossible task.

It's a shame because I genuinely wouldn't have put him in the same bracket as the majority of this team had he left last year but the worse we got as a team perfectly mirrored NKPs decline.

Did Bowyer just have meetings with the out of contract players or did he have meetings with them all?

Don't think he had talks with those in contract as Wright was in London all day yesterday. Unless he contacted them via phone hmm

Not sure why you would meet players who already know they are on contract. Bit counter productive all round I would say.

This NKP situation. Weird. At one point, he WAS decent and dependable. Then went rapidly downhill. As did the rest of the team. Payne is a good example (although part of his downfall was oppo teams sussing out our one dimensional tactics).
What I really wanna know, is what the hell went on at the club SO bad, that decent players turned into crocks of sh!t? It wasn't just tactics, or bad luck. Would be very very interesting if one of the players that gets jettisoned, comes out with the truth about Edin and what really went on behinds the scenes that affected their game so badly, they ended up playing for a relegated bottom of the league side. To be honest, they actually need to come out with that - in order to save and revive their careers and get a new team.

Surely he would need to let them know if they aren't in his plans?

They don't really though do they. They'll get a new club and just blame the problem on the situation at the club, they don't need to come out and say what happened. The loan players go back and carry on, the players (imo) have to take responsibility for their own pathetic performances on the pitch regardless of what went on in the background. Far too easy to shift the blame for their inept performances and attitude to trying to play football and win games.

Surely (Perhaps not yesterday) GB would meet some contracted players to tell them they're not part of his plans, and he would like them to find another club.
