Without meaning to bring a morbid topic up, it’s one which is a very real possibility.

Boxing Day had 10 postponements in the top 5 English divisions due to COVID-19:

    Championship - 1
    League One - 5
    National League - 4

Today/Tomorrow has 12 postponements in the top 5 English divisions due to COVID-19:

    EPL - 1
    Championship - 1
    League One - 5
    National League - 5

Today the Govt are discussing Tier 5 coming into fruition soon which, according to the media today, could bring football to a complete halt within a matter of weeks. (Just google Tier 5 UK for the links)

At what point does it become a disadvantage to some teams who are accumulating games in hand and losing touch with play offs, safety etc.

The amount of games being called off is rising each game week. I think we’re going to be done within a couple of weeks.

One possible reason there is no rush to appoint a new manager permanently, a possibility I brought up a couple of weeks ago.

I hope football does continue, the financial implications for the clubs would be immense and the government are not willing to put money in to keep the lower teams going, they see it as the premierships responsability, the premiership see it differently i think.
What would it cost the PFA to get there members vaccinated. Did i read somewhere, they made a £50 millon profit.

And whilst we're not paying for a manager. Probably makes the decision to stick with T&S for now, even more sensible.

It would make sense to cancel all January fixtures until the vaccine is distributed

There are calls for the vaccination centres to go 24/7 (once the 'Oxford' vaccine is approved). This could allow most of the population to get the vaccine within 2 or 3 months.

A circuit breaker (tier 5?) for a month or two, followed by a gradual relaxation of the restrictions, including the return of football, whilst the vaccine is rolled out to a large percentage of the population, should be given serious consideration. An extension to the end of the season for a few weeks (mid to late May) would allow the postponed fixtures to be rescheduled.

But it'll be be well into the summer before vaccine distribution reaches players in their 20s and 30s. Unless the FL procures a private supply and jumps the queue. I'm 64 and predicted to get it in May.

I think the people most at risk will be vaccinated by mid February

But does that include young, fit footballers? I doubt it.
At 64, without underlying health conditions, I'm in the 7th or 8th group due to be vaccinated. I can't see them reaching my group by February.

Can you imagine the outcry? Healthy, wealthy footballers get vaccine ahead of general public.

We need to get as many matches played as we can, a break will just cause a massive backlog of fixtures. Provided no COVID cases in either team then let’s get the fixture played, nobody can go to the games anyway so it’s not a threat to public health which is what they were worried about when they stopped the season in March.

It's expected that over 70s and those with underlying health conditions will be vaccinated by then. Not healthy footballers in their 20s. I can't see footballers receiving a vaccine until at least May.

Why not just continue as we are? Better to play some/most games than none at all.

Agree. Wonder if Grimsby appoint anyone now it seems Covid is spiralling out of control and if a tier 5 is brought in then we will be back to where we were in March.
