The elephant in the room was that nobody mentioned whether Vaughan wanted to stay.
The presenters didn’t even bother to ask.
The cynic in me wonders if that was deliberately avoided.

I thought Sparks made it perfectly clear that Rhodes is only acting as caretaker until a suitable CEO can be appointed

Happy with my defense of Sparks, he speaks well. A young fella with ambition who is clearly doing a good job under very tough circumstances.

Thought beyond the usual footballer clichés both Callum and Elliot spoke well about wanting to be at the club.

I get what you & @Dratsab taf@Dratsab taf are saying about the £1,300 a week, plus the salary cap restricting the number of players..

However football is not only about a basic salary, it is all about ‘bonuses’. I have family, all of whom get an annual bonus, over and beyond their annual salary.

In football there tends to be:
    • Goal bonus
    • Assist bonus
    • Clean sheet bonus
    • Appearance money (not sure if that is an actual bonus)
    • Performance as measured by final place bonus.
    • Potential promotion bonus.
Theoretically you could have sweeteners like car mileage, discounted car hire/pcp etc.

In the past players have apparently been provided with accommodation.

Sponsorship of players is also a potential income stream and probably quite lucrative.

Even small things like free meals at the end of training, mean players are not spending money.

So there seems a lot of scope to enhance players ‘income’ beyond a mere ‘salary’.

If you are putting the first admin on him then you must credit him on us reaching the premiership. On top of that promotion two play offs a major cup final and six years of progression. And the money he made in negotiating the McBurnie transfer has kept us afloat during lockdown. Not bad that is it

£1.5m would give a squad of 22 on the average wage. Surely that should be enough at this level

You'd like to think so however we still have a chunk of those still around who have no underbelly as proved over the last 2 years.

I actually think we are set up for 2/3 year project rather than all out. Seem to be filling the squad with young lads , blood them for a year or so and then hope to have a go like crewe this year with theirs.

The original proposal was for 20 senior players and as many u23 as you want who weren't included in the salary cap

Appears that was in fact mentioned. Due to the time difference, I was actually working and trying to multi-task and thus must have missed that part.

    It was very noticeable
Stuart said nobody was "pushing him out the door" but he never said whether Vaughan himself wanted to stay if he did I imagine they would have been "singing it from the rooftops"
Vaughan is a vital component this coming season without him. we will struggle badly for goals

It doesn’t matter really because Sparks said it would take a silly offer for him to leave and Tranmere and others don’t have the money

On the subject of James Vaughan the club basically spelled it out.
He's contracted to us and if someone wants him in this transfer window you better get the the cheque book out.
That applies to all contracted players not just Vaughan.
If Vaughan as approached the club and had a private conversation with Stuart about his future at the club I wouldn't expect it to become common knowledge until a suitor comes forward and a financial deal his agreed by both parties.
In other words he ain't going nowhere until someone flashes the cash.

    I give you:
    • Injury
    • Suspension
    • Personal/Family issues.
    • Loss of form.
    • Health
You need at least two goalkeepers in that 22. The number of substitutes is seven, so a match day squad is 18 players. If you think back to last season Riley and Robinson for very different reasons were not available at all.
No 22 is not enough. I would have thought 25 is nearer the mark.

Would be happier if Vaughan himself would say he was happy to stay, looking forward to the new season with us etc etc there is a lot of speculation which could be very easily quashed BOTH parties have to be in agreement
The club are putting the onus on Vaughan and could quote "we don't want to keep an unhappy player" and any transfer fee would be "undisclosed" it's happened before
Let's hope he stays and the speculation is unfounded we need him to lead the attack

Unfortunately that would be the consequence of the salary cap that’s why in my opinion the loan window should stay open all season for lower league clubs

Maybe so but Stuart emphatically made it clear last that the club don’t need or want to sell him so ther won’t be any subsidising wages from us

Were those Dates mixed up? Ryan said something about having to cut back on January spending to stop us going into admin? But should that not have been December 2019? When we got rid of vaughan and Doyle?
