Tbh, if he doesn't want to be here, then feck off Vaughan....

    Simple in my eyes.

Had that been the case, the club would simply have said someting to the effect of "James Vaughan has left the club by mutual consent". Fine and dandy. That's the usual way of dealing with these situations.

But the club didn't say that. They have said 'Bradford City has reached an agreement to terminate the contract of James Vaughan by mutual consent". That suggests there is something more than the usual simple 'mutual consent' parting of the ways. It implies an agreement of some kind with the implication therefore that the club has paid some part of the Vaughan's remaining two year contract as he would be entitled to. Both sides win. Vaughan gets a club nearer to home and can afford to take a smaller wage at Tranmere and we save a significant slice of the remaining £300-400,000 of his contract whilst removing any influence he has around the playing staff.

But the notion that a mercenary journeyman like Vaughan would give up on his significant remaining contract with us doesn't pass muster.

Sometimes when you get something wrong in such an obvious way, it's best to be gracious and just acknowledge you got it wrong. To respond in the way you have done is not very gracious at all.

We're not going to let him go on a free to a rival, say Bradford City before letting him go on a free to a rival.

Once again a player dictates to the club where he wants to go, when, and at what cost.

    Genuinely embarrassing.

Bradford City are absolutely awful at managing the transfer market.

Stuart and Ryan would’ve gained more respect at the fans forum if they’d come out and said “we want him to stay but the players head has been turned”. Why make out we’re the Billy big bollocks, then 3 weeks later let him go for free. They deserve all the stick they’re getting, we’ve been lied to, for far too long now. Enough is enough.

sorry but McCall has to take his share of the blame for this fiasco.. he's effectively known since the first day he came back that Vaughan is both our highest earner and didn't want to be here. Vaughan himself says he and Tranmere have been working on a way out since lockdown with McCall and the club knowing that the salary cap was going to come in.

they've spent the last 8 months twiddling their thumbs hoping that Vaughan would somehow change his mind.. McCall and the club made a clear statement that he would not be allowed to leave on the cheap and they would play 'hardball'.. the club then sign a lad for an undisclosed fee and McCall now comes on the radio saying no clubs are paying fees when we are doing it ourselves. we've allowed Vaughan to control this whole situation - McCall himself says there was negativity before pre season even started. the situation could have been handled months ago in two simple phonecalls; McCall to Vaughan "morning James, you've been gone for 6 months now and we're looking at next season - do you want to be here or not?" the answer would have been "no, sorry I don't." McCall then rings Sparks / Rhodes, "I've spoken to James, he doesn't want to be here so I want him gone before preseason starts so I can have the best chance of getting someone in before preseason and the salary cap."

nobody in this situation has a clear defence to argue against the fact that they've all been incompetent in this situation - none of them escape criticism for allowing this to drag on for months when it should have been sorted a long time ago.

now we're stuck trying to find a replacement within a salary cap and friendlies supposedly starting at the weekend.

So the club have it made plain to any player who joins us in the future on a good contract. Dont worry, if you dont like it here, just sulk, throw a childlike tantrum in training and create cryptic messages online, and we will gladly let you go for free to a more ambitious club, and as an added bonus we will pay you a nice severance package to boost your already bulging bank account

From memory since Rupp and Rahic arrived, only Sunderland, Scunthorpe and possibly one other have fallen more League places.

We’ve had Parky, McCall, Grayson, Collins, Bowyer and McCall again as managers, sold or released our two top scorers to rivals, given long term contracts to players who just aren’t good enough, lost millions each season and used 39 different players in all competitions last season.

But according to some it’s unfair to point these things out and it’s wrong to criticise those running the club?

Transfer list him at a reasonable value and get on with it.

Players don't tell MacAnthony when, where and for how much they're going to move for, it's about time we stopped bowing to players here.

In a way I'm not bothered he's gone, the bloke can stink a place out with his negative body language, it's just the way we do things that never changes. Sparks and McCall giving it the biggun about wanting him and that he doesn't have to leave for financial reasons even though its pretty common knowledge he was gonna go. Turns out his tweets regarding Tranmere were true. Behind the scenes this club is an utter joke.

I always back the manager to get rid of bad eggs Broncs. No one is bigger than the club and all that I agree. But the timing of it all is so bad. It’s laughable and makes us look a joke.
Speak to him before we all get back. See where his head his. He knew months ago he wanted to be nearer his family but we waited and waited and waited and now try blame him? It’s garbage

this is the damning quote for me.. "But, as time progressed and we got nearer to returning to training, I sensed negativity from him. Once we did come back, it was clear to see that no part of him wanted to be involved with us."

if you sense it before training starts, you bring him in first day and sit him down to a simple, "do you want to be here or not?" it was obviously a no, so you get him out asap and give yourself as much of a chance (prior to wage cap vote) to get someone else in. makes a mockery of every other players pre-season interviews about how well they are all gelling together. the club is rudderless and there's not a single person there i'd trust to get this right - that includes McCall.

So it's been on the cards since he first went out on loan but we've left it till after the new salary cap regulations have come in to get rid. He's wanted to go all along, Tranmere have worked on the deal through lockdown according to Vaughan but we make out we've only realised since he's been back at training a week or so to clock on to the fact he doesn't want to be here.
And we wonder why fans don't believe the club is run properly.

Vaughan didn't give himself away on a free though, the fact we received nothing for him lies squarely with the men running the club. That's the main reason people are annoyed imo.

Just been thinking of some of the marquee signings we’ve made over the years and it’s not great reading

    Aaron McLean
    Paul Anderson
    Mark Yeates
    Sean Scannell
    Hope Akpan
    Jacob Butterfield
    Clayton Donaldson
    Jack Payne
    Eoin Doyle
    James Vaughan.

A combination of players who for the most part didn’t want to be here or simply weren’t good enough. Lots of lessons to be learnt here. If right now we were offered 2 players to replace James Vaughan- Will Grigg or that lad from Boreham Wood I’m taking the latter all day long. We need to stop signing journey men on their way down based on previous reputations. It very rarely works out for us.

The club will get the blame but this right here is self explanatory:

Nothing the club can do about that, let’s just hope we get a good replacement in

no other club would allow a goal scoring asset with two years left on a well paid contract to leave under 'mutual consent'. no fee gained and we'll have paid up some of his contract to leave.. the whole club is a laughing stock. after the doyle debacle and now this, 91 other professional football clubs know we are a soft touch. be lucky if we get to October with Wood here too.
