We're not going to let him go on a free to a rival, say Bradford City before letting him go on a free to a rival.

Once again a player dictates to the club where he wants to go, when, and at what cost.

    Genuinely embarrassing.

Bradford City are absolutely awful at managing the transfer market.

    I agree with you.

The wording on the website is very interesting and not the usual 'The contract was cancelled by mutual consent' which usually means both parties walk away from the contract with nothing. Instead it was a little more nuanced 'Bradford City has reached an agreement to terminate the contract of James Vaughan by mutual consent'. That suggests something slightly different and that we have had to agree to buy out some of Vaughan's remaining two year contract as I'd rightly expect to get him off the books.

And the common denominator in all this is Rhodes....Wells and Vaughan, both dictating terms.

We desperately need an experienced CEO with football experience. Under the right leadership this club would’ve been in the championship. Instead, it fell to Rhodes, who had a go but has been found out and embarrassed by any player / agent with half an ounce of working the system.

It really is a priority for Rhodes to step aside and hand the reins to someone who knows how to deal with football mercenaries.

Who is this Diamond (geezer) people are talking about? Any chance of signing him? Who is the player from Borehamwood? As much as I'm excited about discovering a lower league players, history (with us anyway) proves they are lower league for a reason.
What we need in the interim, is someone from up top, explaining and reinforcing why JV has moved on, and why it was done after the salary cap. Clarity!
Back in the old days, at least when our pants had been pulled down over a player, they normally announced a new one within a few hours. Now we've just got Macca mumbling about discontent and having to make do with what we've got. I swear Rupp is begging CV19 never to go away! It's a massive "get out of jail free" card for him.

Thing is Rhodes is an experienced football CEO, just not a very good one in certain circumtances and it appears hard nosed negotiations with renegade Footballers and their agents is one.

My worry is that he and he alone is searching for his successor.
Never the best way to work in my experience, you seem to get a carbon copy of a predecessor and never look outside the similar bubble.

Sounds like we were desperate to get him off the wage bill and took any way out we could

Not sure if we are been linked with Jack Diamond or not. Impressed on loan at Harrogate, not sure whether Sunderland are willing to loan him out again, or release?. Probably prefer Callum Roberts at Notts Co though, lets see if we can do a 'Tranmere' and get Roberts to throw a strop in training and tell them Nottingham is too far to travel from his native North East and force them to give him away to us!

It's true though, once again we'll reasonably high up in the promotion odds when the reality is that it in no way reflects the strength of our squad. The value in betting on away teams at VP has been incredible at times in recent seasons.

If this was a one off I’d say you’re right. But It happens time after time under Rhodes. Window after window. At times of interest in our key players who are on half decent money, we fold and get rid. We rarely replace with like for like and then manager is left to pick up the pieces.
The only benefit this time is there is plenty of time left in the window but I cannot see us getting in many more bodies

That’s true. The thing about him though, is that he comes across as a “stop gap” type of person. Never looking beyond of the current season, even when he owned the club.

If the rumours were true about Baldwin being the one who we missed out on, I’m sure we’d have handled things differently had he been in charge.

I know, the only time Ive ever backed against us, was when Pompey came to City with Merson on their promotion season end of year Party, when we were already down.
Me & a few other's lumped on them.

Proves the lack of any sort of long term planning to me
As a club we have always cut corners to save money we have now reached the stage where the only thing left to cut is ourselves (and we are doing it)
We need a CEO who is both cautious and has that bit of flair to take us forward
Not someone who seems fully focused on the balance sheet and saving money however much it costs us

From memory since Rupp and Rahic arrived, only Sunderland, Scunthorpe and possibly one other have fallen more League places.

We’ve had Parky, McCall, Grayson, Collins, Bowyer and McCall again as managers, sold or released our two top scorers to rivals, given long term contracts to players who just aren’t good enough, lost millions each season and used 39 different players in all competitions last season.

But according to some it’s unfair to point these things out and it’s wrong to criticise those running the club?

Never convinced Baldwin was ever coming. Another Kieffer Moore that one.
Im sure they chatted, but why would a CEO of a current Premier League club, then want to switch to be a CEO at a 4th Division club. A significant reduction in wage at the very least I would suggest.
    Never struck true tbh
Again Rhodes nevers looks too far from his phone book ie McCall et al

Correct and a few questioned the signing at the time, we knew he would score goals but his on the field antic were also questioned, maybe what we fans saw on the pitch continued in the dressing room and that undermined the manager.
Surely even you have to wonder why he went through so many clubs, then again maybe not it's easier to blame everyone else.

My personal opinion is Stuart McCall should step up to Director of Football in time, BUT, you'd also need someone different playing financial hardball on the club's behalf.

I accept after the club rolling over to have it's tummy tickled YET AGAIN that Rhodes is not fulfilling either objective.

Time to begin fielding applications for the role of consultant?

It goes without saying we can't just the inmates to run the asylum, much less check themselves out as and when they please!
