It seems there's a few on here quite determined Jake is already a failure at City, as though he cant adapt his prolific record elsewhere, and it seems some would be quite happy this was the case!
How bizarre, what a talent we have, we wont be selling this talent, we'll be using him to carry on his regular scoring at City.
Im amazed some arent looking forward to witnessing his ability, and somehow seem to want this kid to fail!
He's brilliant at l2 level and he's ours, what the FK is wrong with some of you, we need this kid so much.

Well, what a rip roaring success its been bringing back the free scoring Jake Young. 'We've brought him back to play him' was the resounding cry when really we've been waiting for the highest bidder to help balance the books. Which i don't mind because the club is obsessed with self sustainability, but don't fanny us fans cos we can smell bullshit a mile off. We all kinda knew he wasn't gonna play all along.
Honestly this club is the gift that keeps on giving.Budgie, Bronco, net blaster and 14 others like this. -
What makes me laugh about this whole situation is that if Young wasn't our player and there were rumours we were interested in signing him, everyone would be wetting themselves with excitement. There would also be some that would say he was an unrealistic target because as a club, we wouldn't be able to afford him. Yet he is our player and here we are with people happy to see him sold off for peanuts. If you didn't laugh, you'd cry.

Excellent presser from GA this week. He is doing exactly what I wanted him to do with Jake. Make him feel wanted here, advising him on his career. Stating categorically that we want him to stay. We have nailed our colours to the door. We are saying Jake is our player and we don’t want to lose him. If any club want him it will cost big time.

With Jake, he left because Hughes and him just fell out very badly. I used to work with a family member of Youngs until recently, and whenever in the office and football talk came up, I did ask about Jake whilst he was out at Barrow and what went on with Hughes. Now, obviously these might be tinted with favouritism toward their family member but....
....It started when Jake signed in the May, he was told he would be the back up to Andy Cook and used as the second striker, get starts in the cups too and that we were bringing in another forward on loan from Huddersfield and the 3 would be the options. Then 2 weeks into pre-season, we brought in Vadaine Oliver. They said when he asked MH about the move, Young was told he will be used out on the left wing and as a back up striker, but Hughes seems him playing out left more. So Young started to try learn the role and started the season scoring out left, then come deadline day we brought in Tyreik Wright and Dion Pereira, both wingers, on loan. Young didn't take that well saying another broken promise from Hughes, then MH started questioning Youngs work ethic and attitude and the two have a training ground argument, leading to Young never to be seen again, sitting in the stands until Barrow loaned him.
Come to this pre-season, Young didn't go on the tour to Spain, he wasn't travelling to friendlies, only featuring in one with the youth players. He was told from the start he wont play for Hughes again and to find a club. There were 2 NL clubs who offered season long loans, think one was Solihull and I cant remember the other. Both were turned down because Jake wanted L2 football and then out of the blue Swindon came in. I think you lot were struggling for numbers in the first team at the time? Either way, he wasn't given any promises by Swindon for game time but he was told by Hughes that he wont play here again. The last I spoke to them was early to mid Sept-ish before they left our place, and they said that Swindon, City and Jakes agent were all discussing making the move permanent as soon as the Jan window kicks in.
But the difference with Young and Doyle, the situation in terms of tactic, style of play and more importantly the management has completely changed at City since leaving. It would be a complete fresh start for Young playing in a 2 up top system back within half an hour of the family home. Unlike Doyle who everyone knew was going to go back and he was dying to go back, Young at City is now an unknown and could thrive here with 18 months left on his deal. I think he signs on permanently or leaves elsewhere for cash and capitalises on his form, staying somewhere familiar or might get a big money offer from L1? Either way, I'm not holding my breath on him playing for City again. Although it would be great having a striker on that kind of form.1975citygent, Lancashire Bantam, Wakefield Bantam and 8 others like this. -

He declared he was fit enough to play for Swindon, and as soon as he signs for Carlisle, or whichever team it may be, he will be up and running and playing again.bantamdave41, CRASS, Bronco and 8 others like this. -

Sounds well put out lol Looks like Sparks is playing hard ball. This is exactly how I want our club to play when in negotiations. If they can’t afford him fair enough, he needs to retire from the field preferably without the digs about our asking price being “ridiculous “CRASS, Bronco, Bantam@{Lancs} and 8 others like this. -
Paul Simpson is well out of order talking about Young publicly like that.
He should have done the whole “I won’t talk about another teams player”.

And, a far better player? Even in general play this season, Youngs shots on target percentage is 44.4%, Al-Hamadis is 45.3%. Young scored his 16 league goals from 72 shots, Al-Hamadi scored his 13 from 86 shots. They've played about the same time this season with Hamadi having 8 more minutes. Young has drawn 23 fouls to Al-Hamadis 15, Young was caught offside 12 times compared to Al-Hamadis 22 and Young has crossed 27 times compared to Al-Hamadis 15. Jake was more officiant with his shots, drew more fouls, was onside more, crossed for team mates more...... if you go on this season, Young is the better performer. Oh, and as admitted by Flynn, he was playing Young whilst injured for a month.CRASS, Budgie, bantam2708 and 8 others like this. -
We are playing 2 up top, we only have 3 capable strikers. Unless we get offered daft money then he should be kept 100%.
Get him in that squad and see what he can do. Flog him in the summer if it doesnt work out. He will still hold some value from his Swindon spell.SteveC, Offcomedun, FrenchBantam and 7 others like this. -

I've no interest in Swindon and totally focussed own my own club.
There's no guarantee JY will be as prolific at Bradford, however, we now know since his loans, he developed and matured into a far better player than who left, and much of this is down to Swindon, so thanks for that.
I'd like to think if he does return and plays, he's as prolific as David Layne was, who we got from Swindon, he went on to score 34 goals in a single season.
However, the best player we ever got from Swindon on a free was Peter Downsborough.
Ryan East remains to be seen, however he's cooking along nicely on loan at Rochdale.bantamdave41, donhutchinsaffro, Wakefield Bantam and 7 others like this. -
I honestly do not know why ppl think the League 2 is the exception to high prices for good footballers. We have the Championship and League 1 players going for millions. However, League 2 can be where you go for a bargain basement price for good footballers.
We have to start being pro active with our players and make sure we do not sell them cheap. We are in a good position commercially as a club and therefore we are not desperate for cash. The club state we are ambitious and we want promotion. If that is the case we should be stating that we do not wish to sell Jake Young or any other regular footballers as it would harm our ambitions. Obviously, at some point it would be in the clubs interest to sell and we value JY at £1.5 million as is currently the market price for young strikers. This is exactly what Wimbledon have done.
Personally I wouldn’t consider selling him until we have evaluated his worth. Plus it would give us an enormous lift if he finds himself in the groove again.Briscabantam, gingercafu, bailiff bridge bantam and 7 others like this. -

What I wouldn't give for someone with his vision and ambition now.
My lad is 13 now. He's known nothing but crap being a city fan. Nothing. When I tell him that in the 98/99 promotion year, for most of that season we were as enjoyable to watch as the likes of Liverpool are to their fans now, destroying teams as they can, he doesn't believe me. At least I have those memories. What will he ever have?Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...Silverbantam, Jayteebee, meelin and 7 others like this. -

Cheltenham striker Will Goodwin is going to Oxford for 400k + add ons. 7 goals in his EFL career and is the same age as Young. Another benchmark for our negotiations.
