Wild did though make some comments about Young which were as 'critical' as Hughes. I think it was to do with getting up to speed quickly in matches or in training. They were mild mannered and constructive.

Let's remember that Rob Edwards let him go when Forest Green got promoted. So we've three managers all having at best an 'OK' view of Young.

Add the fact that Young has realised, in a statement when he was at Swindon how hard you have to work to get in a team and stay there - it has altered his mindset.

I always think individuals are responsible for what happens to themselves in this kind of situation and whilst Hughes was bonkers not play him when he finally went to two upfront, I can understand his frustration.

No seriously after leaving the ground (early I missed both Crawley's late goals) I was saying to the Grandson maybe it's time to give up on this season and introduce some of our younger players and try and build a team around them, then I though as long as there is still a chance of a play off we should go for it, but that should not be at the expense of giving playing time to the likes if Pointon.

 

I was impressed with his goal at Morecambe, and took great delight in winding their centre half up when he claimed and gestured to the lino right in front of us City fans that McLean had used his arm, never........

 

Difficult to disagree with any of that but what disappointed me the most was Hughes not offering him a new season/new start/clean slate, IMO that was poor man management from Hughes, but it's all history now let's hope if and when Jake does leave the club we get a decent fee for him, although what some fans class a decent fee others will say we sold him on the cheap, some claiming X club had us over a barrel that always brings a to my face does that comment. .

I agree. Hughes needed to have a clear the air with him and tell him that he wants to try him in his new system and then play him in most of the pre-season matches. If then Young fouls up, well Hughes can say that he's tried.

I would not rule that out Dave and from my own selfish point of view I would probably back it - if I went to home games only. When I commit to driving a 400 mile round trip, nothing pisses me off more than the players not turning up or the manager not playing the strongest team available to him. I don't want to be a by-product or casualty of a team experiment

Don't blame him one bit. If I were him, I think I'd have felt a niggle in training on Friday that caused me to withdraw too.

 

There’s no way he’s putting on a city shirt again so it’s all about getting the best possible price for him now.

Reading between the lines of the T&A article & Alexander’s comments, it’s blatantly obvious that he has conveniently fabricated this ‘soreness’ in training having not missed a match all season despite having niggles.

 

Any player in those circumstances would do the same. Any agent would advise their player to do the same. Any one of us in that situation would do the same, that's the reality. Its naive to think otherwise.

Losing league games to Crawley, Harrogate, Sutton, Barrow (regularly), Carlisle trying to nab our in-demand player, being well left behind by the likes of Wrexham, Notts County and Stockport.
