First half was abysmal, no plan, no idea, no attacking intent whatsoever. Somehow we managed to be worse than last week.
Second half exactly the same until the goal. That then sparked us into life and and it should've been 3/4 in the end but the keeper made a couple of worldie saves.
Still creating the grand sum of feck all from open play but nice to see us looking dangerous from set pieces for the first time in about 3 years.
Don't think that midfield balance was right at all either. It was essentially 3 of the same type of players. I would prefer Cooke, Reeves and then McCartan or Zeli playing the 10 role in front. The Evidence, Faithful Bantam and Bronco like this. -
Not the most entertaining match I've ever seen but I'll take that every week if it means we go up! I thought Reeves was exactly what we have been missing mobile, good movement but rusty but that was to be expected. We looked like we have been working very hard on set pieces and Reeves delivery was first class we will get goals from that going forward!

Those wanting M Flynn as our manager have probably changed their mind after today.
They are a big team but jeez the time wasting, fouling and their general all round crapness was hard on the eyes.
Considering we had to change formation on Friday due to injuries then I am happy to win today.
Reeves was a stand out today. Some good forward passing especially that one to Oteh first half splitting their defence. Also getting stuck in on the tackles and winning the ball back.
Unbeaten in December and long may that continue.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...QCFC BANTAM, JonButterfield and Allotment Bantam like this. -

I thought Oteh had his best game for us today. Probably attached to the fact he was playing much tighter to Vaughan. Play that formation a few more times, and they will soon get a better understanding.
Reeves was excellent, central to pretty much everything.
Taylor looked off the pace. Sadly Henley the same - he was decent last time out.
Despite everything, we still seem to be devoid of creating chances. Newport were very poor. A better team would have beaten us today.RCarol, Rogered Tart and Storck like this. -

We changed our system to match up against the opposition. At home. Against a mid table side below us in the league. I'm not on board with that. Our performances are regressing.
We have the players to play attacking football, entertaining football. But we don't.
Sometimes you need to grind out a win when you're not playing well but it seems like Bowyer is actually trying to engineer a playing style of that type. I guarantee that his two favourite games this season were yesterday and the win at Stevenage.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... For another poster to say he had a 'standard' performance overall despite recognising that some aspects of his game were 'top draw [sic]' and then to say that he was only there to protect a defence (comprising of five defenders!) is just laughable!
It was hardly a great team performance overall despite above average performances from two or three players but to not acknowldge Reeves' overall contribution says much about the poster.Bronco, Allotment Bantam and Keefly Bantam like this. -

Re your 2nd sentence, sort of agree although this is the nuance you would want refs in the pro game to pick up i.e. firstly is it denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity and secondly was it an accidental/genuine challenge.
If a keeper comes out for the ball and doesn’t get there - assuming striker’s touch still takes them towards goal - I would still be looking for a red in most circumstances, given the keeper has full sight of the ball and player and so should be able to ‘time’ the challenge. If the touch by the player and challenge by the keeper at feet are almost instantaneous, then perhaps could be a case for the criteria for yellow instead of red being met, but would say that’s more rare.
It’s different IMO to a quick turn on a defender to be in on goal and the subsequent immediate tackle for the ball just missing, or similar, which would be a better case for yellow not red.
For me it was right to update the law, but as ever it requires the refs to implement it in the game as intended.JonButterfield, RonnieBrown and Dennis like this. -

not the best screen shot but I think it shows the keeper no where near the ball and although someone posted on Saturday there were two defenders on the line this picture says otherwise.hippo, Stafford Bantam and pns1945 like this. -

As I say, this new rewording would encourage a coach to train their keepers to make absolutely sure they wipe the player out whether they get the ball or not. The ball becomes secondary the minute you suggest you won't send them off for fouling the player under certain circumstances.Inspector, Bantam-in-Greece and Bronco like this. -

My distain of the football on show is more a general view of league 2 football than one particular team. And that encompasses a couple of points, poor football, no standout games to get up for, general lack of atmosphere because of the aforementioned. To be fair to Bowyer, it wasn't too dissimilar when Parky took us up, the cup run had the excitement but the general week in week out league stuff was pretty turgid at times.WilsdenBantam, JonButterfield and Fordy117 like this.
