Gary Bowyer said on Radio Leeds before the game it's early doors yet we have only played 18 games.

 

Injuries too have not helped with having a settled side.

 

I thought Oteh had his best game for us today. Probably attached to the fact he was playing much tighter to Vaughan. Play that formation a few more times, and they will soon get a better understanding.
Reeves was excellent, central to pretty much everything.
Taylor looked off the pace. Sadly Henley the same - he was decent last time out.

Despite everything, we still seem to be devoid of creating chances. Newport were very poor. A better team would have beaten us today.

 

But not a settled system.

 

Like the old days Dave . I’ll take the three points really good to see Reeves back .

 

I have been listening to criticism on here over the last few weeks and in my opinion most of it is ridiculous. Last season we had one of the worst teams in our history Bowyer has had one transfer window to turn it around and he has done brilliantly.
This season we are sitting nicely in a play off spot with an injury list over the last few months which would have finished most teams off. Including most importantly the fulcrum of the team in Donaldson who is important to the way we play and as most people on here want to play 442 they must surely agree.
Today Newport pack the midfield and Bowyer got the tactics spot on as they didn’t have a shot on target the whole match and with just a bit of luck we would have had three.
The trouble with a lot of our support is the stupidly unrealistic expectations. Go back and read threads in the summer going on about how it was going to take seasons to turns things round and yet a couple of so so results and it’s all doom and gloom. We are a division two team and because we are Bradford city it means nothing. Take Macclesfield draw last week yes they have troubles but they have lost only once at home this season.
Yes Bowyer is by no means perfect but he is as good or better than anyone we can attract

 

Whilst the first half was a bit of hard work to watch, it takes two teams to play and Newport certainly weren't prepared to play an open game. I liked the look of the formation and would not have a problem with it being persevered with. It maybe needs a bit of tweeking especially I believe both Reeves and Cooke want to play in the same area of the field, picking it up off the defence and then acting as "quarterback." This would be ok if the third man in there was an attack minded individual who would pick the ball up off them and play in the two strikers. Unfortunately Taylor either isn't this type of player or was told to play a different type of game to the one I feel is necessary with this formation. That meant the front two were left to their own devices and there was no one to pick up the loose balls and regenerate the ball into attacking areas.

Not often I agree with you, but I have to say 100% spot on here. People could do with a reality check that we are in the khazi league, and it’ll take khazi football at times to graft out of it, as we did last time we were at this level.

I can’t disagree with people who say the footballs hard to watch majority of the time, but winnings all that counts. Blackpool fans have a lot of respect for him and I’m not aware he played dull football there, today after the game he said himself he doesn’t want us to go long as much as we do and wants to be entertained like fans.

I think injuries play a huge part in the way we’ve been playing, but also our CBs are poor at bringing the ball out of the back, so there might be a lack of trust to do so.

Far from the most encouraging of performances again, as Bowyer remains forever cautious in his match management. Indeed, it is that caution which has cost City a point or two already this season.
However although the game might have been a brain numbing experience for most City fans ………. As @Bronco pointed out earlier - NO team has gained ground on us. Quite the opposite, I'd say ! In fact, apart from Swindon, Exeter and Cheltenham - The other teams City should be wary of all dropped potential points The exception to that would be Leyton O !! Yes, the freefalling East Londoners are our next opponents, and they got a point at Oldham yesterday, which I suspect will gee them up. We don't want the 'law of the Ex' happening next week, do we ?
