    Thanks mate...

A defensive midfielder is there to protect the back four mainly.

Goals win games hence why Doyle and Yates at Swindon are a major problem. Swindon will go up automatically due to their goalscorers unless we recall Doyle.

When Devitt is fit he adds something for us and Donaldson will but let's not make our Reeves is this Messi like players as he's a busy DM that's it!

No. He is not there to protect the back four. We play 3 central defenders for that very reason. He is there to take the ball off the centre halves and carry the ball and distribute. As a result he dictates the play and is always there to receive the ball back from Cooke, Wood, Taylor etc if there is nothing on and then try again. He probably had double the amount of touches as anyone else on the pitch and as a result he starved Newport of the ball. His positional sense and first touch means that he is able to do this.

You don't understand his role do you? Otherwise you wouldn't refer to him as a traditional dm / ball winner.

    I fully understand his role.

He was a deep CM player that often covered the CB's and it allowed Cooke to move forward.

He passed the ball sideways. Made about 2 forward passes.

Look am right in saying we're the biggest club he has played for? Right so pipe down with the loving!

Clearly you didn't see the game yesterday.
That "busy fool" you refer to ran the midfield yesterday. Was constantly talking to his team mates organising the shape of the team and ensuring everyone was on their game. I lost count the number of times he tackled and won the ball. I havent seen anyone anywhere near as vocal as he was since El Capitan Jones.
He made far more than 2 forward passes as you say.
His corners second half were bang on the money. Delivered with pace and accuracy.
He was like a new signing yesterday. Enthusiastic and influencing the game. Constantly wanting the ball to see what he could make happen.
Once we get a few others back from injury we will have a first 11 strong and good enough to compete for top 3.

Getting Jake Reeves back fit may turn out to be Bowyers best bit of management because without him yesterday there was very little between the two sides.

I'm no great fan of Reeves normally but I have to admit how well he played yesterday. He covered a lot of ground, was always looking to take possession of the ball and I thought both his tackling and his distribution was some of the best I've seen from a midfielder at VP over the past couple of seasons. And as you say, his encouragement of others and the way he talked to them at key moments was something I've not seen for several seasons. Without being too clicheed, it was a captain's performance imo.

For another poster to say he had a 'standard' performance overall despite recognising that some aspects of his game were 'top draw [sic]' and then to say that he was only there to protect a defence (comprising of five defenders!) is just laughable!

It was hardly a great team performance overall despite above average performances from two or three players but to not acknowldge Reeves' overall contribution says much about the poster.

Not sure Sunderland, Leeds, Bolton, and many more big clubs with past history's fans would agree, Leeds have been out of the big time for 16 years even thought their crowds in comparison have been very good, similar with both Sunderland and Bolton, I can't see how fans can be blamed for their clubs demise they still turn up in big numbers.
Maybe we're more realistic than other teams fans, and we do accept we ain't going to get a sugar daddy to bail our club out, can you have real ambition when your past owners have said they can only financially take us so far, and we've seen with new owners although rich in comparison with Rhodes & Lawn they are not prepared to fund the club as many had hoped.
The pricing has been done to death, without doubt if the club asked the top end pricing for a league two club we would be lucky to attract 8,000, so it can be argued the club would actually lose money by increasing season ticket prices not getting large crowds and that having a knock on effect with merchandising, food, drink and hospitality.

Reeves was ok. Suppose to make it clear from my point that people are going extra on his performance.

Him, AOC and POC had a decent game. Nothing brilliant but decent.

I just see Reeves as a busy player. He needs to look up and pass the ball forward more but as I have said he starts ahead of Devine and Anderson everyday of the week for me but let's see if Palmer can improve but Reeves & Cooke look a promising partnership.

Overall yesterday thought we were poor but we got the 3 points but we need to improve.

The trouble is @sambantam82@sambantam82 once someone goes on about a certain player going out on loan to gain match fitness saying he won't get a starting place this side of Christmas and when he does come back he would not perform at any sort of decent level he has to make negative comments with regards said player to back his original comments up, as I posted I didn't hear who was MOTM but it did not surprise me when I heard it was Reeves.
We are getting injured players back bit by bit, I don't think Donaldson will be that far away it would not supprise me to see him in the starting line up against Salford if not away to Carlisle, Palmer was on the bench, GRE was injured/ill, McCartan, Connolly, Ismail, all on the bench.
I'd love to be watching great flowing football but I'm realistic enough to realise if Bowyer can get us out of this league first time of asking I'll be more than happy.

Agree Keefley even telling the keeper where to place the ball not the big kick all the time. As the game progressed i thought Clarke and Taylor stepped up i could see these three playing well together. Not a great game overall still a work in progress.

What bit of he was OK don't you bloody understand?? Which bit?

Point is he's overrated! He was brilliant yesterday! We were poor! However, we got the 3 points and move on to next Saturday.

Let's not start making out Reeves is this midfield Master because he isn't. He needs to start passing the ball forward more for starters.

I think I've read most recent replies with regards yesterdays game and I don't think I've read one post that agrees with your comment regarding Jake Reeves, in fact I can't see many agreeing with any of you comments regarding yesterdays game apart from it being poor overall, we got the 3 points that were on offer, we gained a place now joint 5th just our goal average letting us down.
I think we'll be top 3 by the New Year, with our recent past I for one don't think that's bad.

Reeves played like Cooke did in his first few games - very well, constantly on the ball, trying to make things happen, never letting the opposition settle - I hope he can maintain that level, as Cooke has been unable to.

I really don't give a horse kangaroo if anyone agrees with me or not. I am not a YES man like you. I don't care if people like me or not!

My thoughts are Reeves is overrated by some and for me he had an OK game yesterday but overall the team were poor but we go away with the 3 points.

You say you've read my recent posts and I have stated we should be top 3 by the end of the year because the fixtures this month are all winnable.

However, on yesterday's display we need to step up!

Do you know what over rated actually means? I saw Reeves stand head and shoulders above all the midfielders yesterday on the pitch down to him actually being a decent player. How is he over rated when he is doing the job he is being asked to do and doing it well. And then fans pointing that out.

Long may that continue is what i say.
