A bit obsessed with the attacking side of things imo.

Seen plenty of games where teams cancel each other out, it doesn't mean the sides are dire.

Yeah i like to be entertained Jon. A decent league 2 side would have wiped the floor with Newport on Saturday, i'm not give a team any credit whatsoever if they come to Valley Parade to defend a nil nil. And thats what Newport did, the fact they did for so long was more down to our incompetent set up as an attacking threat. if thats the sort of shite that Flynn serves up he makes Bowyer look like Pep Guardiola.

I think I posted if Oldham could finish we might have been a couple of goals down at half time, they played some decent stuff up to the final third.........where have we heard that before.

Yeah, but there's criticizing them for coming for a point and then there's determining that they were very poor.

If they were very poor, ultimately, then they wouldn't have been difficult to break down.

Forest Green's performance was virtually identical to Newport's.

They weren't and aren't dire, because they've done the same thing game after game to other sides. Yet tactically they were the same.

I think 'hard to break down' flatters them. I mean it might be an accurate statement but we never really go the chance to find out considering we never got the ball into any dangerous areas from open play at all, and I think that was more down to our ineptitude than a stubborn newport defense.

When plymouth came here a couple of seasons ago and nicked a 0-1, they were tough to break down, with 11 men behind the ball. We had all the ball, about 20 efforts on goal but couldn't find that but of magic to get through. I didn't see that from newport.

Oteh's header was a hair's breadth off being a second goal against a team that's only conceded 15 goals - equalling Forest Green and Cheltenham as the tightest in the division. Newport have only lost 5 now - same as Swindon. It wasn't pretty but it was still a good technical performance against a team that is set up to be hard to beat. We were losing games like that last season. Winning such difficult games is a huge improvement and stands us in good stead.

Put it this way, if i had to witness every week what i witnessed Saturday i'd stop going to football. It made Parkinsons football look positively world class.

Well, it's a good job you don't have to watch Newport every week then!

Yes it's an entertainment based business and Saturday struggled to provide this
The only bright spot was the Messi esque pass from the Newport player to send Vaughan through for the penalty and ultimately the winner otherwise it had 0-0 all over it

It’s not an entertainment business at all. It’s a results business. Whoever wins the most games, therefore gets the most points and will be successful.

how “entertaining” you are has no baring on it at all.

Can't agree entertaining and successful teams bring in the fans and the finance
No fans no finance no club

I think attitudes around that are changing now. You look at Brighton who sacked chris Houghton after he achieved the results which he needed to, purely because the football was turgid. Now with Potter and largely the same group of players, the style is much more enjoyable for the fans and the results are still there.

A lot of clubs are taking this into account now when choosing a new manager, theres no excuse not to be entertaining.

And some on here and Twitter would take Flynn apparently, would be interesting to see if they still feel that way.

I think that was the idea Rahic had when he promoted Collins & Drury and broke the bank to give them exactly what they needed to make us a good footballing side who played entertaining football, that went well.
I can hear his quote now lets go to win games nobody wants draws, so sometimes changing things for the better doesn't always work.

Collins was a clown appointment regardless of what style of play he had.

You look at the top 5 in our league and none of them are hoofball teams. I think the idea that you can't play attractive, attacking football at league 1/2 level is nonsense.

I take your point but they are a settled Premiership side and can now pick and choose a manager who gets a certain style. We cannot in league two with barely a pot to piss in

I'm not saying that, what I am saying is as owners of a club changing manager/coached does not guarantee good football as the sacking of Houghton and the appointment of Potter suggest there is always an element of risk.
