Bronco mate, you’re missing the point.

Grayson is our new manger. He has probably seen the majority of our players before, whilst managing other clubs. Gibson he knows nothing of.

If all he sees is a player that doesn’t put in the effort in training or in Dev Squad games, what has he got to choose him from? You and I have seen him play and have seen enough to know there is something to work with. But if Grayson hadn’t yet seen that spark, why would he be given a chance?

I’m sure that, after seeing him last night, Gibson will have surprised Grayson, especially if the manager hasn’t seen any of that effort, determination and skill in training

I dont think so I've more than covered my opinion why players are different in training and why every teams need players with creative ability as well as grafters.

I would only add, if the likes of Patrick and Robinson were in and around the first 11, they must have been doing something that Gibson wasn’t doing, on a day to day basis. Even up to Christmas and after the goals he scored in the development squad, he rarely got a sniff. Maybe less time spent on social media might help.

Yeah, I get that mate. But think about it logically.

I am a new manager and have never seen what Gibson can do. Am I going to select him? Or am I going to wait until I’ve seen what he can do first? If this was the case, why would we even watch videos of players and/or send scouts? Surely the manager has to see your skills before he is going to select you?

And if Grayson hasn’t seen, in training, what we have seen from the player in gametime, I can’t see why he would choose him?

For me, this isn’t about effort in training, as such. It’s more about the player showing someone, that has never seen you before, what you can do.

I believe Stuart had him whilst he was Rangers manager, he would have seen him in training whilst there, he brought him down here and Gibson did a pre-season with the other players, he was always going to be potencialy a squad player at best this season.
We started off so well he found and himself out of the squad, there was never any way Stuart could accomodate him within the system he played Gilliead as our wide man so Gibson was overlooked no matter how hard he trained or impressed at Rawdon Meadows.
Grayson took over and his job was to stop the rot which he didn't do as quickly as most wanted, once he did he found we could not make the play offs so that was the time to give these young kids a run out, he was never going to risk kids until we were out of the running mathematically for a play off place.
I don't have a clue what the lad does in his own time but I wouldn't pass judgement on that and neither should you.
Robinson is the only development player who should be anywhere near the selected 18 for first team games but I'm not sure with everyone back and fit he would be any more than a bench player at the moment but he does look the most promising, as for Patrick he got a great goal against Blackpool and IMO the club over reacted by giving him an extension to his present contract (possibly Edins doing to prove a point about his development players) because apart from the odd flash of quality Patrick has been average at best.

As Scunthorpe is potentially Grayson's last match and he has stated that there should be a major overhaul of players I doubt he has motivated many of the current team. Perhaps following the owners' desire to develop youth talent he will play youngsters in a match that is as meaningless as a pre-season friendly?

Stuart didn't have him at Rangers, it was Warburton. Him and Gibson both Joined early in June 2015.

Stuart McCall himself was left out of the side because the manager at the time called him a poor trainer and lazy at times, I believe at some stage they nearly came to blows over it

Yes youre correct Stuart left Rangers in the June as Jordon signed for Rangers in the same month, but I still stand by my comments with regards his time down here under both McCall and Grayson.

That is what I was posting in several of my previous posts, that its not all about what players do in training even quoting @abbomf@abbomf comment : "One size doesn't fit all, some players are and always have been, poor trainers".

But you’re still missing my point Dave.

If you are a young player starting out in the game and your manager has not yet seen you perform in a matchday environment, what has he got at his disposal to judge your ability? He either sees you in a game or he likes what he sees in training.

Now, if Grayson has never seen Gibson before this season, he can only judge the player on the training pitch. If he doesn’t do what we’ve seen him do, how can Grayson think he’s good enough.

Put another way, clubs have trials before they sign some players. They don’t tend to give a trial to known, experienced players (though we have done in the past). Gibson is effectively on trial as Grayson has no other knowledge of what he can do.

    Gibson he knows nothing of.

We played Sunderland in a preseason friendly and Gibson was called A.Trialist
He came on off the bench and played a blinder scored a tap in but he was quality.

It’s a shame Gibson didn’t score with that early chance he had which he out wide , I’d have done the same so I’m not complaining, I think Gibson’s a great young player he needs to have 6 months on loan ripping it up in he national league for Halifax or somebody

Says a lot about the players. You’d be busting a gut to prove your worth for next season if it meant something to you.

    Garbage the lot of them
