I might be in the minority here but I genuinely don’t think that there was a lack of effort or an attitude problem today, we were just poor.
When you think about the game we actually had the better chances we just fluffed them and Southend took theirs including a huge deflection.
The game turned when Poleon somehow inexplicably missed that sitter after their keeper had made a great save.
Maybe I’m just being too kind because I was at Blackpool (shudder).

McCall was expected to get positive results from these players (and rightly so) but because the argument "there not Grayson's players" he gets a free ride, not for me most just wanted Grayson to stop the rot and it took us fans berating the team at Blackpool to do that.thebantamhaslanded, RonnieBrown, Jay and 7 others like this. -
Just for the record, how did Man City do last season under Guardiola? I’d suggest (by their standards) they had a poor season and that was with Pep’s own players. Fast forward 12mths and with another season rebuilding, look at them now.
If you’d been a Man City fan, you’d have wanted him sacked last season...!Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand... -
I want someone in charge who's desperate to manage City, not someone who'll do it on his own terms. Cant believe the arrogance of the man, who plays god awful football to boot! Lets give a young up and coming manager a chance this time, its worked in the past.

Even if you don't rate him, city fans should still be hoping Grayson is our manager next season. If he is, it means he's been backed to do the job and we can look forward to bringing in high calibre players. If he leaves, it means we have a midtable budget at best and are set for another average season. I know which one I prefer...

I remember a McCall after match interview earlier in the season, where he was asked why Gibson was not featuring and his answer was exactly the same as Grayson’s last night.
“ I can only go by what I see in training”
Can they both be wrong?
I think Gibson obviously has potential, but if his general attitude isn’t right he’s going to make it hard for himselfBoingBoing, Pineapple Salesman, Nick_W_ and 5 others like this. -
There can be no coincidence that Gibson, despite his obvious talent found himself on trial with us after Rangers released him, and that Stuart only gave him a handful of starts in non events, even when we were down to the bare bones.Nick_W_, Allotment Bantam, Aireboro Bantam and 4 others like this. -

all this talk of grayson not being good enough for the job is imo ridiculous. He can't be judged yet until he gets his own players in. at the moment theres not amanager in the land could get results with the bare bones he has to work with. Lets be honest hes got fair players out injured or others not wanting to play for whatever reason, only they know.So until he gets to manage, and that's a big if, then and only then can he be judged.

Bit wide of the mark there Jay. I sit in my Season Ticket seat, lower JCT.

It was a bright cameo from Gibson but to be brutally honest - he snatched at a good chance and didn't really get a decent ball into the box. I think Grayson's comments were completely fair and an admittance that this is a player that has to carry on improving.
There is heaps of talent there but its a talent that McCall, as a manager who favoured these kind of players, didn't give many league minutes to either. Only 20mins while 3-0 down against Wimbledon and 10mins while 2-0 down at Oldham. At least Grayson has given him a good chances to impact games, while at 0-0 at Doncaster and at 1-1 last night.
Maybe McCall had similar advice for Gibson to that which Grayson provided in his post-match interview.Pineapple Salesman, Nick_W_, Foghornleghorn and 3 others like this. -

Sorry I didn’t see him play last. Other half says he looked good last night, but he was actually more impressed with Hawkes not sure of his name, he looked cool and composed.
For me Grayson and McCall are absolutely right about training. Having talent is not enough, you have to train and work hard, then you will be absolutely ready to play. It is also a matter of discipline in that as a professional you have to do things that we don’t like. Gibson has some growing up to do, and I hope his father can Instill in him the need to work hard in training.. look no further than Stephen Warnock for what it takes to perform at the top level.Nick_W_, Allotment Bantam, RonnieBrown and 2 others like this. -

Every time I have seen Gibson he has been excellent. But if he is not putting in the effort in and standing out at his place of work the training ground he shouldn’t be picked

If you are a young player starting out in the game and your manager has not yet seen you perform in a matchday environment, what has he got at his disposal to judge your ability? He either sees you in a game or he likes what he sees in training.
Now, if Grayson has never seen Gibson before this season, he can only judge the player on the training pitch. If he doesn’t do what we’ve seen him do, how can Grayson think he’s good enough.
Put another way, clubs have trials before they sign some players. They don’t tend to give a trial to known, experienced players (though we have done in the past). Gibson is effectively on trial as Grayson has no other knowledge of what he can do.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand...
