I agree but you have to catch the eye first as Grayson said he can only go on what he sees Young players have to really stand out to be picked. If he has an attitude problem he needs a rocket up his backside because this lad has a lot of ability. However I fear he will be out this summet

Once we got our season up and running and we were winning games he would be reluctant to change the players who were doing the business, he played Law on the left (but not as an out and out winger) and Gilliead on the right.
By the time things had started to fall away he wanted seasoned pros to try and get us back on track, hence his comment to Greg to bring in seasoned pros in during the January transfer window, horses for courses and at the time it would have been a massive risk to maybe go 4-4-2 with two wide players.

We are talking Gibson and last night I did not see a lack of application, in fact at times I thought he made the wrong choice to take the full back on when a pass and then running into space might gave been a better option, but we have seen very little of the kid to make long term judgements, but as I say on the 35+ minutes I saw last night the lad did little wrong.

You have completely ignored the points I am making, to say McCall did not play him nor did Grayson so he must not be doing what they want in training is silly IMO, I have given a senario why Stuart didn't play him as a wideman, and until last Saturday Grayson openly said he was still trying for a play off place, once it had gone he introduced Gibson as an alternative to the way we were playing.

Well neither played him, Stuart had the choice early doors and still didn’t play him. I have not ignored anything both managers are saying the same thing. Do you honestly believe if this lad was showing up in training Stuart wouldn’t play him, give me a break! We were bereft of creative attacking players all through the season. I am not going to go on repeating myself. Have a look @Allotment Bantam@Allotment Bantam post for analysis of the young lad. I didn’t go last night, but my husband did, and I would trust his analysis of a player all day long. He said, he was bright fast, and looked a real live wire, made mistakes but you expect that with young players, and this is the interesting bit, he wasn’t sharp enough, now what does that tell you? He was more interested in Hawkes, now he did get excited about him, more comments about him please.

I think I commented on Hawkes' performance, rather than Gibson @Onside@Onside. I too wondered why Gibson had not been playing, but to be fair to Grayson he did say he can only judge what he sees, not performances by Gibson before he (Grayson) got here - presumably he is alluding to his Checkatrade and Oldham appearances. He said Gibson did well having been given the chance. I think that is fair enough from Grayson and I hope Gibson features v Scunthorpe.

It tells me I disagree with your huband on last night 36 minutes, I have already posted when Gibson came on he gave their full back a hard time and IMO he was one of Walsalls better players on the night, Oztumer being without doubt their best player on the night.

First half he was a Brilliant move for their goal and a lovely through pass just before that. But second half when we woke up I don’t think he touched the ball

I like Jordon Gibson the brief glimpses I have had of him, and I too was wondering why he hadn’t played more. Now I know, he needs some very good professional advice. None better that Stephen Warnock, if he does nothing else, he needs to sit down and have a chat with him. If you want to play and show off your skills on match days, you need to turn up in training and play to impress the manager.

He was not as good second half, IMO still their MOTM, I'd love to think we could pursue someone like that lad but no doubt with our wage constraints we would not be in his prefered clubs, certainly on what snippets Ive seen on TV and last night a very good league one player not suggesting hecould step up into thd Championship and have as greater influance but certainly an asset at our level.

At league one level ? I'm going to differ with you here Bronco, I think at L1 level its much much more about fight, determination, levels of fitness etc than it is about creativity, skill and ability. If not why are Walsall with one of the most creative players in L1 down the bottom.

442 doesn't have to mean wingers though does it ? It can just as easily mean two solid banks for four - for instance Law on the left and McMahon on the right could be a 442

It could but under the example I was using Gibson and Gillied wide was never going to happen, certainly not at league one level as you point out, there are very few team that play with two wide men in any modern day side.

Your using of the lad Oztumer is fair comment, but he did his fair share of closing our players down last night he was certainly not a passenger when the grafting side of the game had to be done, of course both aspects have got to be taken into consideration but for me a player with flare and ability to create is a big part of any team wanting to progress and you just can't have 11 grafters in the side.

Good info, I wasn't aware of the Oxford connection, I knew of his link with Eastleigh FC who he has to sell so yes he could be lined up for Sunderland job if his home City club want him out.
