Another interesting read , the Royal navy and The war against slave ships 1808 - 1898 . Gives an account of the campaign to drive the Tradiing of slaves between Africa - mainland Europe to the American / south American mainland .

I appreciate that this thread covers a very emotive subject. So far, the vast majority of posts have been well thought out and appreciative of the differing views on this thread.

However, it is clear that one or two posters are feeling aggrieved at the differing views of certain other posters.

I'd respectfully suggest that, if you find yourself unwilling to continue to debate with certain posters, that you put them on ignore.

The moderators will continue to deal with any posts the break the forum rules and any such posts should be reported accordingly.

If you think about how all this started to where we are now then none of it makes any sense to any right minded person...

D'you know, for all it matters you could be purple with pink polka dots! This is a case where the anonymity of the internet is a good thing. Granted some members here know each other personally, some have posted photos of themselves here, and a handful do know my real name and thus could without too much difficulty find out more about me. But on the whole, we are just words on screens to each other, and can be judged more by the words than other factors. It's always nice when others agree with one's words, but there are no guarantees. As one of our members has it in the signature line -- KopKred is it? -- it is a mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain an opinion without adopting it. Overall it has been a good, thought-provoking thread, thanks to the variety of information and opinions being posted.

We now have the scenario where people are pulling down inanimate objects with other groups of people stood round inanimate objects in the belief they are protecting them. What should have been protests to question the role of the police in our societies has seen wanton destruction without a clear understanding as to why they are doing it. There are very clear agendas at work here, this is not just an off the cuff series of protests aimed at getting justice for the killing of an unarmed man under police arrest. Worryingly, and as is always the case with clever use of divide and conquer, I'm seeing a divide emerge that I'd not seen for some time. If the idea of these protests was to unite people then the tangent the protests have taken has had the opposite effect. And over the last 2 or 3 days I've seen the term 'extreme far right' being thrown around with gay abandon by the media. They need to be very careful as to where this progresses, slavery, although wrong, was a very small part of this countries history in a world where slave labour has been used since the dawn of man. It should not be used to try and rewrite history as to what this country did through the centuries.

Got a feeling this is going to become a horrible mess over the next few weeks. This is fueld by the media, and the decisions that are being made by corporations, that are taking anything down that may have ever offended someone.

As much as black people are annoyed about what happened in America, there are white people who are particularly annoyed at being accused that they are racist, due to history.

Dont get me wrong, what happened to the guy is terrible. But let's not forget we do not see that type of behaviour in the uk... I believe that they are actually protesting the inequality here.

I would never judge someone on the colour of their skin.

The problem stems to more than white or black. It's the society you live in, and the opportunities you are afforded.

Rich family = private education and better opportunities.
Poor family = public education and less oportunities.
There are more white families in the UK with wealth, therefore more white people are brought up in wealthy areas and given better oportunities.

Honestly dont know how this is going to change in our generation.

The protester interviewed by sky stated they were protesting against police killing black people on the streets. Fact is that doesn't happen as the only black person killed by police last year was a terrorist in the midst of committing a terror offence. So in essence, they're protesting against something that simply doesn't exist.

This is entirely relevent to the debate , this is reality of life in the 60s 70s , not by reading about it, but by actually living it . Many of my friends lived in conditions like this , they went to schools alongside black and asian kids , we grew up together , we went to school together we played in the same football and cricket teams together , my dad used to work over 100 hours a week to keep our heads above water , so did thousands of others of all race creed and colour . We didn't get a 1/4 of the chances the kids have today , all the comentators in the media and " experts " spout white privillage all the time . Today the lives of all kids are 100x better , the number of asian and black millionaires in this country is equal to white people .Pupils of asian backgrounds have better exam results than whites and blacks , the BLM campaigne is good and if that was the main point of the debate then thats fine , the fact that other much darker forces such as Antifa have got involved is doing their cause no good whatsoever . Watching the shocking pictures on TV are doing nothing but drive a very large wedge between the communities in the UK . Until all sides are willing to stop and let the voice of reason on all sides take over then this country is doomed to civil strife the likes of which have never been seen in this country , and who would actually gain from it ? it certainly wouldn't be be me or you , the stripping back of statues etc etc is totally wrong , judging how peoples lived 150/ 200 years ago then judging by how people are judged today does not equate , destroying 300 / 400 year old statues does not educate people it airbrushes history . The only way forward is to educate people not just in the UK but the world over . Not just the brutal white history but also the brutal black and asian history . I doubt you will agree but the way forward is not what is happening on the streets of the world today .

Is anyone else worried that the Fury v Joshua fight could become symbolic of something much than just a boxing match?

I'm watching it now, its like a well played out script. The pantomime villain Paul Golding now being shown in all his glory, giving his Winston Churchill V sign a very good airing. The fact these feckwits choose to cite heroes who stood up to oppression in World War 2 as a reason to spout their vile shite makes me feel sick. Its like being back in the 70s.

Your first sentence falls in to the trap of dividing people though. People at the bottom rung of the ladder with similar circumstances care not one bit for black lives matter, their supposed white privilege offering them no hope whatsoever. People have more power together rather than as afflicted individual groups.

its a missed opportunity in several ways, as I'm sure once the issues on race inequality were debated and dealt with, that seems a perfect jumping off point to tackle class issues and wealth inequality as many of the issues overlap with race imo. Its been a bit upsetting because ive seen a lot of working class people balk at the blm movement even prior to the monument shenanigans, when it's a movement that can quite easily grow to accommodate other issues and become a wider protest against inequality under the right circumstances.

@brisbanebantams@brisbanebantams , can you name me any country in the world that hasen't got a dark history ?. Talking about things that nobody alive today has been guilty of, but having to feel blame , your mention of right wing thugs on the streets of London fails to reflect the numbers of ex servicemen of all race creed and colour standing guard over the war memorials .

The fact that people from all backgrounds and of all ethnicities fought against fascism in the second world war seems to have escaped the grasp of the football fans alliance.

I think a lot of people in this thread have at least attempted to show a degree of introspection, and have put effort in to interrogate and stress test their own views.

I’m not sure you’ve ever shown an inch of compassion for anyone else’s views on any subject than your own or those that are directly compatible with your own. It’s consistently ‘these morons disagree with me, how dare they’. Even in the quoted post, the dismissive tone of how anyone can possibly take issue with anything - ah yes they mustn’t actually believe what they say they do, they must be hangers on and kids. It’s bizarre that you can’t comprehend any viewpoint but your own.

Lunatics are taking over the asylum, egged on by the media. One thing we all need is some proper press regulation in this country. They do more to hold this country back than the bloody politicians sometimes.
