Gary Bowyer - when do we judge?

The usual platitudes. Loads of positives, great workrate, loads of shots, crowd great etc. Either he's saying this despite knowing the truth, to encourage the fans and the players, or he actually believes what he said, which would be very worrying. That was a truly awful performance.

 

Anyway, if we are to judge today's performance, that's a side that will finish 7-10.

Nothing like dangerous enough for top 3, but way too physical and combative for a lot of sides to do anything but hope for a point.

With a little optimism, I can see us finishing 7th and being a nightmare team to face in the play offs.

For all the butt kissing of Vaughan and Donaldson, they looked like two target men trying to play together today, and that's hardly the ideal set up - though clearly Vaughan is the more likely to produce magic than Donaldson, who is more of a workhorse with feet.

 

GB said we were poor in the final third. You disagree with that? We were poor. Bad passes and wrong options taken.

 

Truly pathetic watching him trying to whip up the crowd with ten minutes to go. You pick the team mate. It's your shitshow and your responsibility to whip up the team, not ours. Not the first time you can't change your tactics to beat ten men.

 

Wondered how long before this thread appeared, can't believe it took until 5.55pm.

 

You can't judge him after the 1st game of the season some massive over reactions. If we're still looking like that after 10 games then I'll be worried

 

Why though? It was beneficial for him to see the players in training and work with them for those two/three months and see who was useless.

If Bowyer wants to bring in his former assistant Terry McPhillips, then Rupp must surely sanction this. Of course, I have no idea whether he does, but not sure he gets the required help and assistance from a failed Avenue manager alongside him

 

Can't even be arsed with some of our fans, first game of the season. Get down the road and support Beeston if you're after the manager already. First game, 10 new players, got a point and didn't concede. If you're moaning get a hold of yourself man.

 

I must admit, I hate to see Managers and players trying to up some noise, its like they are blaming the fans for the game not going their way. The fans were on the whole very good today, apart from the mindless few booing at the end

Well done to Cambridge fans too. They brought a lot more than I thought they would, and made some noise at times

 

What was strange about it? It was very similar to the Liverpool game.

 

Here's another perspective ..it is week 1 of the season and we have made massive changes to the team - it is not going to be a walk in the park season and no-one inside the club claimed it would be. Didn't we win the first game last year?

 

I’ve no problem with this thread to be honest, I think Bowyer has a lot to prove and I’m really concerned with his team formation today. He’s saying all the right things and I’m prepared to give him a fair crack but it’s worrying he got it so wrong today. We know Doyle has been crap but who in the world would you play him in a number 10 role, he’s as far away from a number 10 as Rory bleeding McArdle and that decision worries me. He’s played a right back at left back and given Scannell 12 minutes ( admittedly he was poor ).

I watched a really ponderous team today, I expected a lot more, a team that would go balls out and start to right the wrongs of last season, they failed on their first attempt

There's a reason why they 'failed on their first attempt' as you put it, and it's clear as day where the main problem is. It's been there all pre season, it was there today on the pitch and also on the bench. Until we get a couple of quality midfielders in it will continue to be a problem.

 

Nail firmly and unequivocally on head

 

A point against one of the favourites to go down BB. Hopefully Bowyer sees where the weaknesses are and moves on them because come half way through the season i’m expecting our lot to win games like today with time to spare.
