Gary Bowyer - when do we judge?

I agree with both @Bronco and @bantam2708. In my view it was mistake to play Doyle as a number 10, he clearly does not have the talent to play in that role. He is allegedly a striker but one with more limitations than a straight jacket, more on him later.

I can forgive a manager for making a mistake, on paper three strikers are better than one, but we all knew our midfield was weak. Having watched the match, I would have made changes at half time, Scannell on Doyle off, in effect what he did with very little time left. Far too late in my view, the team had started to panic and look exhausted, not a good time to effect change. So GB needs to look in the mirror on that one. Team selection had an air of ‘ we are going to batter these, so it doesn’t really matter who plays’ A lot has been said about Cambridge and the fact they nearly went down well that was last season. What I saw was a defensive organised outfit, which could have been broken if we had scored.

It is difficult keeping all your players happy as presumably they all want to play, but you have to be ruthless and put your best 11 out. To leave Scannell on the bench to play a system that had so many weakness was poor in my view. If your best players on the day suit a 442 system then that is what you play.

Do we need to question our manager, of course not. He definitely got it wrong today, but surely we are not a club that sacks a manager after a few games. The best results come from clubs who stick with their manager.

Doyle is clearly not good enough, I have heard every excuse in the book, and I know he is not a number 10, but should we not try to get much better, I think so.

 

You and @Fordy117 should get your heads together and organise a banner flyby. Its about £500 IIRC from when the other flyby was being organised.

Need to spend some cash on Gary Jones type if we are to reach top 7 this season. Yesterday was boring but GB the man for me.

 

Although I feel GB needs time to add more bodies,I have to say I am a tad surprised that after a full preseason of structured preparation and a pre-empted team selection by him, it is confusing to see such an undercooked performance.

 

He said two windows to sort playing squad out. Stay in touch till January then turbo to play offs. I hope anyway.

 

Simple fact 433 will not work for us all last season we needed width and was the same from the word go yesterday. The last 20 when we went 442 we looked and created more simple put the crosses in and Vaughan and Donaldson will score plus you can see that half a chance Vaughan will get a shot away. I thought Devine did ok when he come on agree with everyone about Anderson and Doyle should be no where near the first 11 and Gibson there is a chance here for him to stake a left winger spot but needs to do the basics like a simple pass sometimes. I would let Palmer create and bring in a no nonsense that's my ball midfield general next to him as the defence looks stronger and even thought O Conner had a decent game MOM for me and i dont like him. Last of all i would of put wood on when we went 442 for Gibson but all in all we need to get behind this team and have a real go this year.

 

Where’s all the need for the panic though?

Good sides are built on a solid defence and it’s clear for me we have that now.

The attack and formation needs a tweak and a couple of additions but we will win games.

And @Fordy117 using Chelsea Real Madrid etc as an example that sacking a manager works. Laughable.

@Fordy117 give it a rest now, your negativity is draining and counter-productive.

Everyone knows new teams need time to gel and get used to playing with each other. They will improve for the run in horse racing terms.

Give him a couple of months with this new team before firing shots.

 

I agree, we will win games. We will also draw some and lose some. Lincoln drew 16 times last year but still won this league by a clear 6 points. A bit of perspective is needed.

 

No guarantee Stuart would come back even if they sack GB. He's after dinner speaker with 9-5 agency and breeds horses.

 

They are pretty much built on a solid defence too. Won’t win every game but we will be up there. So much panic and short termism in football these days.

 

Who’d want Stuart back? He’s had his day. Never did it before and wouldn’t now
