The more I've thought about it during the day the more plausible the 'season of consolidation' scenario has become. If it's not the case, then our recruitment and preparation for the season, and subsequent team selections, have simply been incompetent. Last night's team showed a lack of respect for a competition that has been kind to us in recent memory, and total disdain for our fans who paid to watch on the assumption that we were trying to win the game.

After Bowyer's post match comments about challenging the players to put a marker down for Saturday and being disappointed some didn't do that, I'll be judging him alright if the likes of Anderson Akpan and Doyle are anywhere near the starting 11 on Saturday.

There are conflicting things with Bowyer with regards to the game. He talked in the press before about our history makers and said he told our current lot to make a bit of history themselves......then he made eight changes.

Compare that to a team like Sunderland who, at Accrington, seemed to go near full strength.

He obviously wasn’t bothered about progressing and used the game as a chance to give the fringe lads a run out. He didn’t expect us to win did he, even though the fans were hoping to see us finally get a win on the board.

The silver cloud to the defeat was that he now goes into a meeting with the board with a stronger negotiating hand. If there was any room for us to bring in a few loans, he can now say we need them even more than before as some of the backups are gash.

If we’d won the game after rotating he would have boosted morale and had the opportunity to progress in the competition....though he (and we) knew early on the chance of success last night was slim.

Im just surprised he took the option he did. Naming our best XI to try get a win on the board would have been my preferred choice!

Sounds like conspiracy theories are alive and kicking at VP, i mean, playing poor players out of position to prove a point. Honestly, i’ve read some daft things in my time.

I wonder if he is restricted by injuries but doesn't want to use it as an excuse. He said today he's easing Scannell back in, yet people were questioning why he was on the bench and not starting.

Some people need a reality check on where we are as a club. You don't win the league at the end of August, and you certainly don't after 2 games.

The only reason Town 'should' have done that, is because sometimes people are unable to remember or accept the context of the initial appointment. But any strong leader of any good company or football club is surely going to be able to ignore the weight of any criticism from fans who can't or won't understand the situation.

So, with all respect, I think Town fans should have been ignored entirely - just as anyone saying Bowyer is under real pressure should be ignored until the likely outcome of this season can be more accurately predicted.

    But he's not achieving results.

    He's not solving problems.

His in game management is awful

He's got to start offering fans and the board something.. he's got show he's capable of doing the job at Bradford City.

As I say for me the next 3 games are all winnable and we should be winning them all with no excuses.

I do come out with utter none sense of the highest order on occasions that’s true. I’m not an apologist for GB but I can’t get my head round the utterly simplistic approach that says poor results sack the manager. Our problems are deep-seated long standing and not of GB’s making. By all means sack the manager if he’s the problem but in our case its a little more complex than that. I’m sure you were at the front of the queue advocating SMc was sacked when there was a dip in form. A few of us said he’s not the problem and ultimately we were proved right. The fact that you seem unable to move beyond you’re default solution to the problem is not surprising but it does get a little wearing at times.

All isn’t well down at the puppy farm, Rumours of financial irregularities, rumours around the chairman’s financing of the takeover, whispers he’s involved in training and team selection. Young German coach sacked by megalomaniac English chairman.......it’s like a mirror image of the Edin era.
    1) if the chairman had no faith in GB why give him pre-season and the transfer window?
    2) if the chairman trusts GB why the hell would he bin him after two or three league games
    3) who the hell would replace him, window about to shut, wage budget nudging the FFP cap?
I’ve put a tenner on town to be relegated, lunatic chairman, lazy players running down big contracts, a delusional fan base who believe they are too big for the championship, I love the way they are desperate to copy our business model

Bowyer also said that Devine can and should be doing better.

Look, Devine's performances have been better than Anderson but that's not hard.

We still 100% need better than Devine or Anderson in midfield.

Keeping Doyle fit and in game time incase a move comes good, easing Scannell in slowly, giving Gibson a chance to show what he can do in his preferred more central role, suring up the defence and improving their confidence for what will be a long season.

Having said that. I'm glad we've now gone 442.

Funny when shoe is on the other foot isn’t it?

It’s still too early to judge but the talk of sacking him was delusional and nothing else.

You were one and are slowly looking very premature

Long may it continue i say.

I think that's true, he was too worried about forest green and wasn't concentrated on playing to our strengths.

We haven't got one decent center midfielder, let alone two. That's the reason the recruitment has been so poor and the reason that with either 2 or 3 in there we still get over run and dominated.

Oh, and if your system relies on Danny Devine then we might aswell all pack up and go home now. He's not good enough, he never has been and never will be. He's a reasonably useful squad player but that's as far as it goes.

There's no balance to the squad, that's why it's suggested the recruitment has been poor.

He had the whole of pre season to get them gelling. Yet he wasted games by playing the kids or trialists who were nowhere near good enough. League games are not a time for experimentation.

The decision to play full team of triallists in a couple of the friendlies was madness, and a waste of valuable preparation time.

The first half dozen games of tje season seems to have been experimental time with selection and formation. We all thought Bowyer was going to be well prepared for the season from the off, clearly we were wrong.

A lot of fans, like me, who last week rubbished the suggestion that he was under pressure already, admit now, that he is.

I cannot defend him after yesterday's decision to change the defensive set up. This was one area that he had got spot on prior to yesterday, it doesnt make sense, and listening to him post match, he seemed to think it worked!

He urgently needs a couple of league wins now, or the knives will be getting ever sharper, with a certain former favourite manager available now too. For what it is worth, I dont think Parky would come back though. He will want to be rememered here for the spell under Lawn and Rhodes, not start again
