Gary Bowyer - when do we judge?

Isn't it nice that we don't need an amazing performance to stuff a side 3-0.

That's what happens when you get the basics right!

Can’t please everyone, but I’m my opinion it was fantastic to see City win convincingly again. After the doom on gloom of recent times - we are back on track! Like it or lump it......

 

Doyle and Anderson don’t play, we go 4-4-2 and win 3-0. Funny that, no really.

 

I can't see how anyone can knock that. A three nil win is just what we've been crying out for -with a goal each for our forwards, and one for our winger who got his first start of the season.
Midfield might have been a bit soft, but I think Devine came out of the game with a lot of credit, and Bowyer stated that he's still looking for one or two bodies to come in to bolster that position.

If you went today you'd understand what Bowyer meant by that comment, the first half Oldham had 8 corners to our 2 they had 69% of possession and looked very good going forward but we kept a clean sheet with a bit of good defending and the woodwork.
Second half although Oldham kept getting forward we looked far more comfortable and should have run out winners with at least another goal or two.

 

If thats what Bowyer said then respect to him, first half Oldham were a constant threat but had no shape whatsoever, i can see them scoring and leaking goals in future games.

 

Can't see them scoring many at all, to be honest. Did they actually have a forward or was it just a collection of mess?

 

3on target the whole game according to the BBC but the ironic cheers from their fans late in the game suggests none tested O'Donnell.

 

Before the game I asked when we should judge and my dad said he expected us to win next three games. In end he said we needed to win the two home and didn’t mind a draw for the away.

I agree with him.

 

I give us credit for defending well. They are a mess though, don’t seem to have any shape at the back.

 

Bowyer's a strange one. Full of praise after 2 turgid displays against Grimsby and Cambridge but not happy after we trounce Oldham 3-0.

Bet he goes back to 4-3-3 next game.

 

Or maybe (hopefully) it's finally hitting home with him that to make sure our performances are better, we need to strengthen our midfield.

Much happier with that. I thought everyone had a decent game but Vaughan was MOM for me. Put everything into it in attack and defence. Closely followed by Donaldson. Palmer and Devine were also both much improved in the second half and put in a real shift. Hope we don't see 4-3-3 again.

 

It wasn't a GOOD performance, overall it was a better one. GB was right and I am glad he wasn't happy despite the win. Shows he has higher standards and will keep pushing the team to improve.
The difference was the clinical finishing of JV CD and SS. I suspect that will be said a few more times this season.

 

They were a delight to watch, far to good for league two, if we can keep Vaughan fit surely he'll be a 20 goal plus striker especially if he takes the penalties now Doyle has gone, and Donaldson so difficult to get off the ball when played up to him, he leads the line so well.
