I acknowledge that zonal marking is widely used in the PL and many teams deploy it well. My concern is whether it is transferable to the lower leagues where the skillset isn't quite up to PL standards!

I put it in the same category as continually playing the ball out from the back at a walking pace or the use of some formations which may be favoured at the elite level but are not the best in the khazi.

From their performances tonight, we should fear neither team. Everybody knows that Smith can be dangerous and must be a real handfall for any defender. He showed that tonight. Stockport looked toothless upfront tonight but would provide a very different challenge with Madden and/or Wootton in their squad. I presume they're both injured and I hope it stays that way!

On our day, I'd expect us to overcome either of them; but if we played consistently as well as we know we can, we should have been promoted already! With our inconsistent performances, we'll have to wait and see which team turns up for us.

But first we have to overcome Carlisle, firstly tomorrow and then up at their place. My comment about our inconsistent performances will equally have a significant bearing on those games as well.

How long has hughes had to sort someone out to play on left hand side.

Hes totally given up on anyone playing there and leaving us totally unbalanced.

Ridehalgh has no one to pass to and has 2 men all the time.

Just good to get a win in the home leg. Three times we’ve lost at home in the first leg, 2-0 to Blackpool, 3-2 to Burton and 3-1 to Millwall and twice we turned it around. It’s going to be a tense day next Saturday and feel we need to score as Im sure they will get at least 1 goal. I’m feeling hopeful though.

The same homer ref that let their centre backs put Cook in a headlock every time he tried to jump for the ball? I could not believe what they were getting away with.

One thing for sure, if we throw Osadebe on again with twenty minutes to go, we’re inviting danger. I lost count the number of heavy touches he had, leading to loss of possession or throw ins. Then he started drifting around and did the exact same thing on the right side of the field! I know he’s a big lad and MH was probably thinking about physical battles, but I’d have preferred East to have come on, as he at least seems to have a footballing brain and knows how to pass/keep the ball. Especially protecting a lead.

What if that is the best Carlisle have played, certainly not the best we have played.
We have 90 minutes to reach Wembley and have a 1 goal start, same players on a different piece of grass.
If we had a decent left sided player in front of Rideaulgh , we would be so much better.
Osadibe, like the others has looked miles off.

I'd love it to be Salford in the final. Even if all 1,211 of their fans each brought six friends, they would still have less than 10,000 and we would be able to see the word "Wembley" on the seats in their end, like we could with Notts County back in 1996.

Being more expansive hasn't worked for us. Our best form has been Jan-Mar when we played the diamond and were pretty defensive.

What a day. The result, the atmosphere, Jagger going mental at the final whistle, Wolves fans applauding us on the way out, loading u on booze in Asda over the road and the drive up the M6 with City fans delirious.

    Amazing memories

The levelling up money shouldn’t be used to fund a football club. I might turn a blind if it was a loan. Mainly because they are competing in a nation wide competition where lots of clubs could do with a financial boost. That is not levelling up it is favouring one club at the expense of another and therefore one hand on the scales.

It is bad enough the super rich are buying clubs and “donating” money that somehow is classed as income thereby getting round the regs. These two shylarks are laughing at how easy it all is.
We might not be fashionable enough to warrent such attn. be glad be very glad. We are doing it the hard way. We sell 14,000 season tickets and it bumps up to 20,000 on big match days but we are sustainable.

I agee, having just read it. Well my comment it is now or never as far as this season goes, we either find our inner Barcelona or go into the next season in league 2.
