I read post after post on here with people underwhelmed. I'm not sure that my fellow Bradfordians understand the current situation. Football finances are shot, the economy in ruins and a fair chance football might grind to a halt once more. Its important the club survives and therefore financial prudence is key. Austin Samuel might underwhelm on paper but over 40 years supporting City we have rarely seen success with big signings. Austin might be the foil we need for Novak and Guthrie and he may be Nahki like. Lets see before we criticise.

It's not. It's what we have been crying out for though. A young, quick striker who offers something completely different to Novak, Donaldson and Guthrie.

We have to wait and see whether it works out for us and for him or not.

He looks to have what we're looking for - he's speedy, he has an eye for gola and I'm sure he'll want to prove himself against league opposition since his contract at Wolves lapses at the end of this season. He has an added incentive to prove he has what's needed. He clearly wasn't at the top of SMc's list but he looks to have skills which are absent from our current crop of strikers.

Welcome to VP Austin and I hope you have a successful time with us.

signed on a season long loan

I wonder if Watt has recommended this one? Scored against us mid week and sounded a bit of a handful. Know nothing about him

    Good luck to the lad

Yeah, best thing is to wish him luck. Lets face it, no one has a clue how good or bad he is. But then no one had a clue how good Josh Cullen or Lewis O'Brien would be. Generally our loan signings from premier league clubs have been decent. I did say all along though that Vaughan would not be replaced with a like for like signing, his behaviour was a blessing in disguise for club desperate to get him off the wage bill despite reports in the media to the contrary.

What a miserable comment and no surprise RC likes it! He comes from a club where Nuno has got them playing fantastic (and mainly winning) football so lets get behind the lad.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if one of our current strikers moves on in January and opens another place for Stuart to continue the teams evolvement - and I really hope we get one good wide man in come Jan as dont see Ism or DMH as the answer for various reasons. Stuart has already said he is starting to evaluate those whose contract is up at the end of this season which makes total sense - but just hope Covid doesnt kibosh everything again and draw a halt to things

To be fair to the lad he came here on Tuesday, scored a goal, and would have had another if Hornby didn’t make a terrific save 1v1 down to his right. I’ve just watched the highlights of the wolves game, and his positioning looked good, but just lacked a bit of service. Definitely has pace which is what we’re missing, and has a good record in the games he’s played, albeit in the under 23’s. You can only score against the teams you’re up against and seems to have done that so far. Good luck to the lad.

Definitely a change in approach, no experienced right back or striker.

purse strings being tightened and I get why things are looking pretty dire for the game, especially if everyone acts like Grimsby.

for me it’s a positive signing, young, hungry, pacey and only gonna get better.

Do you really hope it works out, for McCall's sake? I don't believe you. I don't think you want McCall to succeed.
From where I'm sitting it sounds like you are willing him to fail so you can gloat and say I told you so if it doesn't.

Good luck to the lad. I like the fact we have a few young lads in the squad now.
Our youngsterts look to have something about them, lets hope this lad and Bryce Hossanah are even better ,having come from premiership clubs.
The enthusiam of youth, hopefully pushing each other forward and the club at the same time.
Reminds me of Mcall, Hendrie, Abbott, Palin , Singleton, Goddard, Jackson, all young lads mixed with a few senior pros.
    Very similar to this squad.

You are probably right Park, but for me you can either play or you can't.
No need to 'bed in' - any decent player will soon cotton on, make runs, pass, shoot etc.
Nah, not for me, get the lad straight in so we don't have to waste time watching Guthrie 'perform'.

Look we are clearly watching the money belt. It's becoming clear. In terms of a signing he has pace which is what we need but can he cut it at this level...We will soon see.

He can't be worse than Guthrie.

Why is signing a young prospect from a decent premier club prospect lazy? Don’t agree with that one bit, open your eyes to the uncertainty surrounding football and you will see it’s a very shrewd signing under the circumstances.

I think if guthrie's completely honest with himself and looks at his last few performances he can't moan. gotta do the business if you want to be the big man in the first team

Looks like another loanee signed with a view to a permanent.

Refreshing to know we don't necessarily need to develop him and send him back.

Contract up in the summer, like with Bryce this year and Paudie last.

    Keep them coming!

Got a good feeling of things to come from City now!! I like the feeling of youth and experience we have.

The new salary cap implications is going to see a lot more young players getting their chance as older journeymen looking for a last payday get the boot. With a lot less money around the players who show the most hunger and desire will be the ones to succeed. I'm not fully behind the salary cap but it will dictate that big spending in the lower leagues will be drastically curtailed.

Thats my main worry is we're asking a lot of a virtually untested 19 year old at senior level.

Was Samuels a name put to McCall before Tuesday? Probably. Was he a player that we seriously considered before Tuesday? Probably not.

Either way, he's clearly got the core attributes we're desperate for - pace, mobility and athleticism. And judging by Tuesday, he's an instant improvement on Guthrie and Donaldson.

But we've been here before with the likes of Patrick and Miller who are clearly athletes but not good enough footballers. Add to that the amount of goalscorers prolific in u23 football who can't cut it in the professional game. It could go either way.

Fact is, he got 0 goals in 6 appearances in the national league north for Kidderminster last season and considering he's been brought in as a replacement for Vaughan I'm not sure why people are being criticised for being apprehensive about this signing.
