I also mentioned yesterday what Kav has brought to the team.
He does a lot of the running that Cook was expected to do when he was played up front by himself.

Kav will be a very important player next year.
5 goals in 15 starts this year hopefully converts in to 12/15 next season and also gives Cook a bit of confidence that he isn’t the only player who has to score our goals.

 

If we think closely

We have potentially lots of goals in with the exception of Walker all gauranteed , contractually wise, to be here next season.

Let Smallwood ( Yes I’d give him a 2 year on reduced terms) play the much deeper role protecting the back 3 , better for his legs ?

 

I think there is just something about him. He has maturity beyond his years, he makes mistakes but isn’t getting hung up over them. He talks about the team but also his role in the team.

 

In the Sky League 2 team of the season for a second successive year, but some still don't think he's good enough and think he should be an option from the bench next season.

 

He’s been sub option THIS season from memory , irrespective of his merits . He was also used as sub option or dropped by MH last season irrespective of his merits . Let’s please not let facts get in the way of opinion. It’s clear he can do a job on or off the bench, it is to me , however you arnt suggesting he should never be dropped if form hits a rut are you ?

 

Cook has always been a fantastic all round team player for us in my eyes. I’ve never understood the criticism

Even as recently as Salford away, I was arguing with some absolute div who kept saying how shite Andy Cook was. I had to embarrass him in front of his mates, telling him how important cook has been and that we’d probably be relegated if not for his overall contribution. Needless to say they moved elsewhere for the second half

It’s funny that in the transfer priorities thread,not one person has suggested Cook be replaced.(I know he’s on a long deal but so are others who people have suggested be let go - Smith,Oliver)

Every department of the side needs improvement but the thing that gets you wins -goals,particularly from strikers seems to be quite low down the list of vital improvements.
This is because we’ve got a player who with the right service will just about guarantee 20 goals a season.
Cook scores goals
It’s what he’s done every season he’s played for us.
He is not the reason we’ve failed to get to the play offs.

 

There's a big difference to being rested at times when form dips to suggesting he shouldn't be starting next season and would be a better option from the bench. But you already know that.

Absolutely, which is one of the things I told the lad who was berating him. Cooks contribution to defending set pieces is probably the best I’ve ever seen by a City forward, even better than big Jim. To say he’s not the tallest of players, he can jump brilliantly and his timing is second to none

 

So he doesn’t play every game and can be a sub no matter what you said earlier….who knew ?
No player is guaranteed a starting place, irrespective of contract or past record.

 

I’ll admit that I’m not a regular here and only dip out and in. But are you always so facetious? We all knew what the point was being made.

Andy Cook should be the no1 forward at this club. No he shouldn’t be undroppable (not sure anyone said he should be), but it is up to other players to win that place, just as much as Cook’s to lose.

Some saying we should sign another no9 and just demote Cook to the bench are crazy. It would be good to sign genuine competition for Cook (not sure Oliver is that man), but it would be his job to win Cook’s place and not be given it as a right.

I remember seeing some comments on Social Media during the Wrexham game. He missed his penalty and some “fans” immediately turned on him. One even wrote “just sell him for free” (I didn’t get how that was even possible), but a little while later, Cook scored from a 2nd attempt and those posters were suddenly nowhere to be seen.

We tried that with Oliver, who was a complete flop in my eyes.
Cook , unless totally out of form starts . 40 goals and 20 assists in the past 2 season, in a team many say is poor , is fantastic. We would be lucky to sign anyone with those stats.
Maybe get Ibbitson into the squad as understudy , not sure of his style, but at 6ft 2inch , is a big lad for a teenager.

 

Agree, at least let us have a look at him before we flog him ....
