64 in 136 games and STILL we have morons getting on his back constantly.

10 in 23 this season which is nearly 1 in 2 yet apparently he's been "poor" and carries too much weight?

Ah well, glad to see Cooky still stuffing it up 'em when he scores. You keep going Andy lad!

He’s definitely improved his form recently, certainly since GA has come in which has conveniently coincided with a return to regular goal scoring.

Still no doubt his form was seriously off earlier in the season, but clear to see now he wasn’t the only one perhaps suffering from Hughes’ struggles.

Was wondering about his celebrations and if they were a nod of ‘don’t doubt me’ to everyone as you mention. Not sure why he just doesn’t celebrate with the fans who want to do so with him…..

He seems like a pretty confrontational character. Probably gives him the edge he needs to be a bit prickly.

He's a league two player, he's obviously going to have lean spells. The fans should understand this and stick by someone with his City record. I just find it bizarre that people are really quick to criticise someone who every single other league two team (and probably the majority of league one teams) would take in a breath, especially when he's already netted 10 a week before Christmas!

Please don't. I've had a nice day today watching that back 3. Strength, reading of the game, dominating forwards, cynical when required (Platty) and that little bit of pace when needed.

    They were excellent.

Agree at his level a lean spell is inevitable. However let’s also call it as it was in terms of performances, which was poor at times. Strikers can have a lean spell in terms of scoring but still play well and continue to contribute. I think most of us will agree there was a period of games earlier this season where Cook was underperforming and looked unfit.

Doesn’t take anything away from him been arguably one of/the best striker in the division. Nice demonstration of his determination and desire to get back to form and prove people wrong. Good for him….

He looked unfit because he got injured in the first game and because of Hughes/Gent/Sparks inability or refusal to bring in a fit, genuine option, we continued to flog him to death.

The bloke could barely run in some games which is why, as you've noted, his performances were poor.

I still believe he was contributing though and criticism has been exaggerated due to his excellent achievements last year.

There’s an argument his lack of replacement was a significant contributing factor to Hughes’ demise. It’s still baffling how they didn’t even bring in a free agent to help share the load when there was literally no other option for Cook.

It will be interesting to see how many minutes Oliver gets over the festive period of games. Scores depending on games of course, but hope we can use the squad to protect players such as Cook.

I have no problem with Cook not caring about the fans. They chant his name for one week and call him all kinds of names the next week. I know his Mrs is in some of the groups on social media and so he's probably aware of all the rubbish that he gets called.

As long as he does the business on the pitch, he can put his fingers up to the fans for all I care

Fat m8. Just wait till his next lean spell, it'll be cos of his weight according to the usual halfwits.

In my view here is a player who has fantastic qualities for scoring goals. He also needs to be fit to maximise his skills. If you are injured even slightly it decreases fitness. Therefore any attempt to carry on playing will result in poor performances. He now looks fit again, and we are seeing his skills being properly utilised.

In my opinion he was deservedly criticised just like any other player. If that has had the desired effect, then good. We need him scoring and being a nuisance up front. In games previous, he's gone through the motions and the team has suffered because of it. He's still the best striker in the league when he wants to be.

Yes, it’s totally unforgivable that we signed a load of nonentity loanees (who now don’t get anywhere near the bench) when anyone with half a brain could see that what we really needed was another experienced, competent striker as cover and competition for Cook, given that Oliver was clearly going to be out for several more months. If fans can see this, how come managers can’t?

Agree with this. You see from Walkers goal yesterday, the benefits of Smith who was the one chasing down the keeper - pressing, which we seriously lacked under Hughes. A change of approach from GA and the players in the right positions to do it .

The only defence I can give Hughes is if he was requesting it and Rupp/Sparks didn’t approve it. Whatever the case, the miss of Cook, Oliver and/or a suitable replacement massively impacted our start to this season and Hughes’ job.

Was it that he just couldn't be arsed or was it that he was being flogged to death while clearly injured so just didn't have the mobility to impact games in the way he'd like?

I know which I'm going for.
