I hope you're right but before you get too confident that 4 game run also included the eventually relegated Rochdale in a game we lost so the league position of the teams doesn't always increase my optimism.

OK watch him next game and tell me he works hard and contributes other than if the balls aimed at him. If it isn't he isn't chasing it or coming back for it...
Anyway your best mate Taylor will start next game and we will win.

I think it's a be careful what you wish for scenario. In my 55 years of watching City I can only name an handful of Centre forwards/strikers who have been as successful as Cooky has been with us.
Obviously big Bobby Campbell, Sean Mccarthy, Jimmy Quinn, Lee Mills, Peter Thorne and to a lesser extent James Hanson (not to demean his contribution to us, just that he wasn't a prolific goalscorer!)
That's 5/6 players in over 50 years that suggests these type of players only come along once every 10 years!!!!!
I know some will say what about Bobby Ham, Bannister, Carbone, Nahki, Blakey? but they were second strikers, the role Smith is now playing. Out and out Centre forwards like Cook are hard to find and becoming an even rarer breed nowadays. When Campbell left we brought in Mark Leonard to replace him that went really well......... Not!!
Likewise Oliver is not and never will be a suitable replacement for Cook.

Don't forget when the ball is passed to his feet he does some kind of fumbled stretch, loses sight of the ball, falls over and complains to the ref.

He's literally been top of our assist charts for the last 18 months but I'm supposed to take your opinion because he doesn't run around like a headless chicken?

I respect you've got a different opinion but back it up with some facts instead of a childish dig about a player that isn't applicable to this thread.

You can't say that on here. Only players you're allowed to constructively criticise are Ash Taylor and Osadebe.

I mean, I agree with you though.

I think the proof is watching him. He gets assists because it's lumped to him and he can hold it up. He can head it too.

You're missing the point, I'm talking about right now. The player we have in the team at the minute is innefectual. He couldn't even score from 12 yards. Last two games he's been off the pace. People will call him out because when things don't go well for him, they really don't go well vs when they do go well, where they really do go well. There's no inbetween. And i think that's fair. Take a look back to big Jim, who even when it wasn't going so well would still put himself about and not just throw his arms up in the air and moan.

You've taken my opinion and converted it into something it's not. It's a current opinion of him and his current form. I'm not suggesting we bin him off, in fact we can't he's the best we have. But that doesn't mean it will be forever.

The Taylor bit was a tongue in cheek joke M9.

I agree he's not been particularly effective these last couple of games but you could go through 1-11 and say the exact same thing. Even Mr Consistent Brad Halliday was poor on Saturday so perhaps if we can get the unit as a whole working better we can expect a better output from whoever is leading the line.

As for Big Jim, I think you're re writing history a little. I'm not getting into that though as it could turn into the latest 200 page thread.

Didn’t the same principle catch up with Jim at one stage Dave?

I have been watching some of the City games from the late 90’s recently.

Robbie Blake was something else , either foot it didn’t matter. Couple him with Beagrie and Mills…..wow!

Perhaps you're right about the whole team.

Something has been off the last two games. Could be a bit of a hangover from working harder in games since GA came in. No doubt training has been tougher too and with so many games in a short space of time...

I think selling Nahki Wells had the biggest impact on Hanson. His partnership with Jim really worked because of his pace and once we teamed him with the slower Billy Clarke instead it took away a lot of his effectiveness as Clarke couldn't reach the flock ons.

We would be in deep trouble with out cooks goals. He has always been a lower league striker, people are expecting too much. If he was faster and more consistent he wouldn't be playing in league 2.

The clubs leading goal scorer every season he's been at the club, well on target for 20+ this eason and you're suggesting he shouldn't be in the starting 11, you've missed your vocation in life you should have been a stand up comedian, send @Fordy117@Fordy117 a pm I'm sure he'll point you in the right direction.

Get on the phone to all the other footy chairman and ask if they want him in their team... if we had wingers and more pace he would have another 10 -15 goals a year too..... forget his assists and taking defenders away from other players...
