Hopefully, the parents of Harry Dunn will have more luck in petitioning Joe to send Anne Sacoolas back to the UK to face justice for the tragic death of their son.

 

But what the hell are they supposed to do? From the start of his presidency (eg his manifestly false inflation of crowd numbers at his poorly attended inauguration ceremony) Trump has branded any facts which are adverse to what he sees as his image or interests as 'Fake News'. He is a serial liar. By July 2020 the Washington Post had counted 20,000 misleading or false statements made by him.
OK, all politicians spin stuff to some degree, but Trump is off the scale. He has taken lying to levels unimaginable in any mature western democracy. He appears to believe that the function of the media is to make him look as good as he thinks he is. The media don't see it that way, thank goodness.

 

yes most of them especially on trade protection, Trump is an obnoxious person but his gut feeling for protecting the US in a world situation was spot on, reverse that and there will be trouble ahead for the citizens of the USA,

 

Not sure that was the case before Covid, employment was very high even in the Black communicates and there economy was racing ahead, without doubt he would have won before Covid.

whilst I agree with pretty much all of that, I’m sure down the line, this will be used to try and garner more support for the next repulblican populist leader. We shouldn’t think it’s over or dismiss the tactics being used by the backers behind the scenes of people like Donald Trump. what happened there is pretty sinister imo, I’m sure it won’t be the last we hear about patriots dying that day to make their country great again or something like that. People fall for it, there are some very dangerous people in the background.

anyway, we have plenty going on in our own back garden, trying to get out of this absolute mess we are currently in.

 

It is pretty funny watching many of the arseholes who've backed Trump every step of the way now squirming, denouncing him and resigning five minutes before he has to leave anyway. And our own government full of Trump sycophants chewing on lemons as they half-heartedly denounce what he has deliberately encouraged.

But you are absolutely correct. And the next Republican wannabe autocrat will be subtler, cleverer and less of a buffoon than the orange one, and therefore more dangerous.

 

Oh give over. He got banned from using a company’s own platform as a consequence of his own actions. He’s spent the last few months spreading absolute bollocks about election fraud, anybody else would’ve have removed ages ago.

 

If they banned people for that it'd be a very quiet platform.

Nobody has a right to be amplified is an interesting point but does free speech really mean anything if you can only shout into an empty room?

You are right that Trump may always find a way to express his views but that's only part of the issue. It's about who decide what views are acceptable seemingly over and above their stated rules.

 

It will be interesting going forward because social media like Twitter and Facebook avoid prosecution for any posts on their sites claiming they are exempt because they are only a facility for views of others without control and not a publisher which could be liable for its content and may be sued or even prosecuted by the Law agencies, Lawyers are now claiming that by editing and deleting posts that may be distasteful but not illegal Twitter are exercising editorial control and as such are a publisher, In the past they have claimed they only delete posts that demonstrably break the law and not views, They have now exercised editorial control and should be treat as a publisher with all the liabilities that brings

 

As with any postal voting system it is open to abuse, for me postal votes should only be for people who can not physically get to a polling station for a legitimate reason.
