Surprisingly quiet in the Bullingdon Bantams Social Club tonight. Must be due to lockdown.

Hopefully he’ll manage to keep his son out of prison now.

Hopefully, the parents of Harry Dunn will have more luck in petitioning Joe to send Anne Sacoolas back to the UK to face justice for the tragic death of their son.

Sleepy Joe will be no friend to the UK. He will be typical of the IRA supporting Democrats and will do their best to thwart any meaningful post Brexit trade deal with us.

Yup, looks like chlorinated chicken is off the UK menu for the time being, thank goodness.

My view is that voting should be compulsory. An option should be ‘none of the above’, if you are disenchanted with the candidates.

Given the American system of having a president, then I think a fairer situation is that your vote goes to the federal ballot, rather than on a state basis. Let’s face it the great Brexit issue was decided on the total vote, rather than by parliamentary seats.

Totally agree that people should be enabled to vote.

It’s more than probable that I won’t vote again - I’m not casting a vote for shit any longer.
Anarchy has got to be a better option than what’s currently been served up as democracy.

Its like having a choice of meals, all of which make you fell sick but are then duty bound to eat the one that makes you feel less sick. How about putting some meals on the table that are worth eating. Half the US whooping in delight voting for a candidate that probably wouldn't have won had his opponent been anyone but Trump speaks volumes of where politics currently sits in America.

Won’t be long until social media decides elections. I’m no fan of Trump but the way he’s been hounded and censored by the MSM is nothing short of sickening and anti democratic.
I really fear for the future - it’s not going to end well.

That’s probably one of the central problems of democracy, everyone’s version of perfection is very different from anyone else’s.

It’s vaguely similar to the episode of The Simpsons where Homer designs a car on his brother’s tab, and designs something that only he would ever buy. If you gave a country to a single person to design the meal that tastes best to them then it’s going to be pretty rancid to a whole lot of other people.

Half marks is probably the best you can realistically do in a first past the post system (it’s what it’s basically designed to do), a more proportional multi-party system of representation would potentially at least help to build a broader consensus and a more robust mandate.

I’d argue the way Britain does it is maybe the worst of all worlds. You can build a pretty impenetrable mandate with 65% of the electorate voting for someone else.

Having voted at 18 and then had a self imposed stance of not voting for reasons i've stated a few times, over the last few years i've really tried to get into politics with a view to reviewing my voting stance but the more i learn the less inclined i am. My opinion probably doesn't reflect others on here but all i seem to see is incompetence and hypocrisy. Your first sentence is quite poignant to me, as i've got older i realise my version of perfection, where fairness and common sense prevail, doesn't exist. I really wish it did.

His battle against the media eventually proved his undoing, i just find it strange the media now portraying the US as somewhere thats cheering being saved like in Independence day when in truth they are now governed by a 77 year old career politician who nobody really cares for. The world is a really strange place right now, politically the western world seems a complete shambles. Trump is finished but what difference will it really make?
