On their album "Blind", The Icicle Works had the line "there's an actor in the White House", pre-dating a TV star by some distance, but this is USA, I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if next time around we have another "celebrity" in power but this time one who is associated with a single character.
Personally, I would hope the next president is a woman, her evisceration of high profile opposition members in congress meetings was wonderful to watch. Step forward Katie Porter.

Not specific to the election, but this feels like a relevant thread.

The Derek Chauvin (George Floyd) trial is being televised, which I think is common practice in the US. That seems to be asking for trouble in terms of stirring sensitivities to race relations. Not just in the US, but presumably in the UK too. And if for any reason any conviction is limited to Manslaughter, which doesn't seem in the realms of fantasy, I think there'll be a fresh wave of protests and riots.....

We should televise major cases here as at present there is no transparency in our justice system

At least the prosecution managed to get manslaughter on as an option. At one point it was murder or free.

I think that'll be important. Purely speculative on my part, but I think manslaughter is the most likely outcome.

not sure on the exact definitions over there but I can not imagine it was in the blokes head to kill him when he was arresting him.

It's so predictable isn't it, but let's face it all this unrest was just waiting to happen and this incident lit the flames.....

I don't think it was. Reasonable doubt would be easy to infer - what police officer would deliberately set out to murder someone in that manner, in full view of a public armed with recording devices. I believe murder requires intent and pre-meditation. Equally, he'll likely argue that the manner of 'restraint' is a justifiable and accepted use of force in police tactics.

It'll turn nasty again. Nastier than last summer.

Everything related to the race debate is seeing society become more divided, not less. I've always believed that the colour of somone's skin is an irrelevance, but so much of todays discourse is making is central to how people are thinking, speaking, acting.

There is no way they will convict a police officer with murder, at best will be involuntary manslaughter This is why his defence team fought not to have manslaughter as an option,

As with all these things no matter what the jury decide there are going to be complaints.

you only have to look at the police independent inquiry into the Met Police behaviour at the Sarah Everard vigil. That has come out and cleared e officers but there will now be complaints about the inquiry.

why bother asking the independent police complaints people to look into it if that is going to be the response though?

There is an old saying in politics, Never instigate an inquiry or review unless you know or can influence the outcome
