The president announced almost a month in advance that there would be a rally on this date, internet activists pointing out exactly what they were going to do, Trump spending all morning geeing them up, egging them on even while it happened and saying how great they are. But yeah, it’s the other other guys out to make them look bad.

No, in the simplistic world view of the right wing authoritarian, they never are.

 

By turning tear gas on peaceful BLM demonstrators and then encouraging neo nazi white supremacists to storm the seat of government and subvert the lawful completion of the democratic process.
Is that what he means by making America great and safe?
Funny how it seems to be having precisely the opposite effect around the world - making America look stupid and very wrong - arousing international condemnation. Even arch-bigot Priti Patel has condemned the violence, and Bozo Johnson has at last summoned up the balls to condemn Trump's role in inciting violence.

And, of course, making America safe in Trump's mind means making it safe for white people to do what the hell they like without fear of reprisal. Whereas black people can be stopped for no reason, beaten, shot and knelt on by the police, even when not resisting; baton-charged and tear gassed - who cares? They're only blacks to him. They don't count. Hardly surprising they occasionally decide to vent their frustration, is it?

whilst I agree with pretty much all of that, I’m sure down the line, this will be used to try and garner more support for the next repulblican populist leader. We shouldn’t think it’s over or dismiss the tactics being used by the backers behind the scenes of people like Donald Trump. what happened there is pretty sinister imo, I’m sure it won’t be the last we hear about patriots dying that day to make their country great again or something like that. People fall for it, there are some very dangerous people in the background.

anyway, we have plenty going on in our own back garden, trying to get out of this absolute mess we are currently in.

 

It is pretty funny watching many of the arseholes who've backed Trump every step of the way now squirming, denouncing him and resigning five minutes before he has to leave anyway. And our own government full of Trump sycophants chewing on lemons as they half-heartedly denounce what he has deliberately encouraged.

But you are absolutely correct. And the next Republican wannabe autocrat will be subtler, cleverer and less of a buffoon than the orange one, and therefore more dangerous.

Trump lost fair and square, what has happened now is shameful for america and if BLM stormed the capitol building we all know you'd be one of the first to have a problem with it. what would you think if someone trashed parliament because they lost a general election

 

I think prior to that though its going to completely tear the party in two, scenes from today will also do a lot to turn the average person off from trumpism big time.

 

There were many who wanted to overturn the result of a free and fair vote from June 2016, by making the electorate vote again .

 

Twitter just permanently suspended Donald Trump's Twitter account

 

Parler is getting removed from some platforms. From what i understand, it was set up by a member of the Heritage Foundation (Rebekah Mercer), it’s also therefore linked to Cambridge Analytica. Now it looks like it’s a straw man for those nasty commie snowflakes to censor, for their own ultimate benefit. I’d just let them sound off in their own echo chamber tbh, this is exactly what they want. On top of this, using casualties from the other day will not be out of the question, either. Wow, they really are so oppressed. I hope for the sake of the people that died, it was worth it.

 

Unless Twitter has information that he was going to directly invite further violence I don't love this move.

I don't think it's for twitter to decide who gets access to free speech as long as it's within the confines of the law.

It's funny because it's Trump but long term its worrying.

 

Of course Twitter can decide who can post on their platform, it’s a private company operating in a free market, they’re not stopping him going to the nearest street corner and shouting his opinion. People have been banned from here, but no one’s accused the powers of stifling free speech.

 

I think this just gives him chance to play the victim, to be quite honest.
