Ah well. At the time I thought the contract was too long, but then he might not have signed. I would have signed him on an 18 month contract. Last season he was brilliant in a dull season, but I doubted whether he could repeat it.

I liked Wright during his time here, was sad to see him leave. He chose Plymouth, understandable, but he didn't want to be here 12 months ago.

That said, bye gones be bye gones - we are shite and need him.

I think he needs us too! He has learnt that trying to rush your development is not always possible, so he has come and taken a step back. Let’s see with his new found wisdom he can drive us into a playoff position.

It'll be fascinating to see where he plays. I liked Wright before and I welcome him back. But I have a nagging doubt here that this is another indication of how we're lacking in a proper plan, and real alignment between that plan, the manager and a proper scouting and recruitment system.

If anybody gets dropped to fit Wright in,I am afraid it's going to be Pointon.

    Is that how it works?

I thought the loaning club usually paid an agreed percentage of wages on top of any "loan fee" the parent club may have asked for?

No impact in the Championship. But was excellent in L2 last season.
    Guess where we are?

Sorry General, I’m not having Kurtis Guthrie and Lee Angol lumped together like that. Angol was a quality player with excellent ball skills who would have had a solid L1 career but for appalling luck with injuries. At the end of Hughes first season, when he took over from Andy Cook, we saw that, even on one leg, he could trouble defenders as a lone striker. Before that, when he still had pace, he could play wide left with great effect. Adams signed him because he ‘took Morecombe apart’ while playing for Orient. Sadly (in a familiar club pattern) we mostly saw the crocked version.

    Guthrie, however, is just pants.

But I’m talking about what we know he can do at L2 level (because we saw it here last season) not what he may not be able to do at Championship level. Big difference.

Angol was a better player than Guthrie but not much better. Didn't work out at Peterborough when he was fit and if you can't make it there as a striker you ain't making it anywhere.

He's decent enough player at this level. But as with anything the proof will be in his performances.

He scored 11 in 38 games as a young striker in his first season at Peterborough. Then fractured his ankle and was never quite the same player since.
He was way better than Guthrie.

I went on the Plymouth forums and thoight they would be a lot harsh on him.but the feeling was that there is a decent player in there but for some reason it simply hasnt worked out :(

    Of course.
Last year he was easily our third best player, behind Cook and Lewis. That left sided attacking position was never adequately filled after he left. His goals and assists would have turned enough of those draws into wins to have got us up automatically if he’d stayed.

I think Cooks form was something that he simply didnt think would happen ...........still even without that the whole signing of a battering ram forward who is best suited to a team that go long was just simply stupid ............you looked at the way we played and you knew it wouldnt suit Oliver ........so why bring him in ???
