Yes there are striking similarities between the progression/ regression of Wrexham and Chelsea. “We can throw as much money as is practicable at a club’s playing side and hope it eventually pays off”. Chelsea , so far has been a massive failure. Any 11 of 30 odd international players they put out just look a disjointed mess. Multiple ( decent) managers try to do something with it, yet they end up getting moved on. As a case in point , it doesn’t always work, in fact it rarely does.
I believe Wrexham are now becoming part of the same principle..

One thing that has been stark in the Williams and Pattison deals and that money does not appear to have been the driving force , nor motivation in the deal, rather something I have never realised could be more important.
Pattinson interview yesterday showed how much, geographically linked with the length of deal, the move was a no brainer for him and his young family. I suspect Williams deal was of the same iteration?

That said …..Wrexham won’t be able to show they are an attraction that money can always buy. There are more important things in life sometimes.!

For all this apparent Wrexham love in I would have their owners at Bradford City in a heartbeat, infwct I'd go pick them up from Leeds/Bradford myself. My spidey senses are picking up pangs of jealousy from what these guys have achieved at Wrexham and the publicity that has come with it. Good luck to them I say, certainly make a god awful division a bit interesting next season with them in it.

The problem is that once you start flashing the cash and paying over the odds to land your targets, every player you approach from then on in will up their demands, even the bang average ones and why not? I would.
It's a dangerous game that doesn't always payoff.

Wasn't aimed at you individually, some folk on here seem very critical of two owners who have come along and put unique twist to owning a football club, a club that has now gained a global audience. And lets face it the only time this club has ever really seem success is when big fat Geoff came through the door with his brash and abrasive demeanour. And what i wouldn't give to go back to those crazy days, best years ever of being a city fan. Yeah i'll take the ensuing shite that followed for those 5 years.

PP has full credit in the bank at Wrexham. He knows how to get a team out of div 2 as we know.
It’s refreshing that an owner is talking ambitious and increasing expectations unlike ours who bask on about sustainability and economics.

Teams from the National league or that come down do tend struggle to start with in all divisions as it takes time getting used a league.Wrexham will sign quality players as will Notts County.

PP won’t be gone if Wrexham are not top gone September at all. More pressure on Hughes being top come September or Clough. Teams that have been in Div 2 for a while and not succeeding like Bradford City will see crowds turn.

Completely agree. No surprise to see WW having a dig, the same as he likes to do at Posh and McAnthony. All while we continue to languish in the arse end of English football.

It would be nice just to get our own house in order and let these teams worry about us instead!

I honestly thought Nigel Clough had been sacked by Mansfield a few months ago.

I agree on PP, plenty of credit in the bank. As long as they are 'there or there abouts' he will get another stab at it next season if he doesn't deliver promotion.

Reynolds and the other fella arent stupid. They dont want to become the status quo of these trigger happy 'foreign owners' that hire and fire at will. PP would have gone that first season he failed to get promotion if so.

Of all the owners in the football league, these guys are some the least likely to be dodgy due to their whole lives been built on popularity and their reputations that are based on it. Pure green eyed monster rearing it's jealous head

As we've discussed mate I've have my doubts why these two took Wrexham on but the more I watch them both last night as an example on a blog similar to CityVent they came across as very approachable guys who were prepared to listen.
I believe they did their homework with regards who they wanted in crucial positions bringing Parky in with his knowledge of lower end football and Shaun Harvey for the non footballing side on a consultancy basis, just how far they can take Wrexham only time will tell but IMO they have started to build the club with the correct foundations, I don't think the Championship is unrealistic for Wrexham, but Wrexham fans need to realise that might take several seasons.
Money doesn't guarantee success but it sure does give you a better chance, yes I'm one of the jealous fans you mention.

P.P is under more pressure than at any time in his career yet seems the type to revel in that pressure. The Wrexham story demands another successful season but I believe Reynolds/McElhenny see the benefit of not chopping and changing every two minutes.

I think you're jealousy is based on the same logic as mine Dave in that they could have picked any club, Wrexham certainly weren't unique and from what I remember reading weren't the first club they'd seriously looked at buying. Especially these days when a lot of owners offer fans the world but with no money to pay for it. This ain't an attack on us btw, even Wrexham speak of self sustainability later on in the ownership model so ultimately th club has to pay for itself.

Of course it’s jealousy who wouldn’t want that sort of money. But let’s not pretend it’s down to anything magical it’s down to people’s obsession with celebrity. And WW is right shouting out loud is not helping them with their recruitment they would be better playing it down

I don’t think, I certainly aren't, looking at anything from a green eyed monster perspective . My comments are purely based on motivation of players and impending relocation around the country. Money of course talks , but clearly not as loud as some want to believe. My comments around Chelsea are based on what happens if chucking money at something does not always have the intended consequences. They are going backwards because of it, that’s not conjecture nor opinion , it’s fact, if league position is the measure.

Pretty sure I read that they were only looking at non league clubs - they wanted to create a narrative of bring 'league football' back and an educated guess would be their advisors probably told them they could invest at will and no FFP constraints to worry about in order to do this. I can't think of many more attractive oppositions in the NL at the time....Stockport were bought out the year before, Chesterfield became fan owned the year before and Notts County were in the grip of their own majority takeover which concluded a few months later. Wrexham really the only team IMO.

If they had of targeted L2 clubs I am certain we would have been on the shortlist.

Agree I believe of the two there will be a bigger expectations with regards Hughes delivering than Parky, not sure Wrexham fans will see if that way.

Is that possible with their present owners ?, as has been posted previously Ryan Reynolds is not just a very successful actor but a very astute business man.
