Maybe all the PP/Wrexham/National League stuff should be moved to its own thread in General Football?

I honestly thought Nigel Clough had been sacked by Mansfield a few months ago.

I agree on PP, plenty of credit in the bank. As long as they are 'there or there abouts' he will get another stab at it next season if he doesn't deliver promotion.

Reynolds and the other fella arent stupid. They dont want to become the status quo of these trigger happy 'foreign owners' that hire and fire at will. PP would have gone that first season he failed to get promotion if so.

Yes there are striking similarities between the progression/ regression of Wrexham and Chelsea. “We can throw as much money as is practicable at a club’s playing side and hope it eventually pays off”. Chelsea , so far has been a massive failure. Any 11 of 30 odd international players they put out just look a disjointed mess. Multiple ( decent) managers try to do something with it, yet they end up getting moved on. As a case in point , it doesn’t always work, in fact it rarely does.
I believe Wrexham are now becoming part of the same principle..

One thing that has been stark in the Williams and Pattison deals and that money does not appear to have been the driving force , nor motivation in the deal, rather something I have never realised could be more important.
Pattinson interview yesterday showed how much, geographically linked with the length of deal, the move was a no brainer for him and his young family. I suspect Williams deal was of the same iteration?

That said …..Wrexham won’t be able to show they are an attraction that money can always buy. There are more important things in life sometimes.!

Quite right Kevin. They are now subject to EFL accountancy rules on spend v. income. The NL, NLN and NLS were given the opportunity to vote on EFL standards and declined in favour of spend, spend, spend. However, once in the FL they have to abide by the EFL rules and if there is an excess (possibly due to previous spend levels), then the owners/ Directors are personally liable to make up the difference.

That's how Trevor Birch, EFL Chief Exec. explained it to me last season when he visited and we spoke about it.

Wasn't aimed at you individually, some folk on here seem very critical of two owners who have come along and put unique twist to owning a football club, a club that has now gained a global audience. And lets face it the only time this club has ever really seem success is when big fat Geoff came through the door with his brash and abrasive demeanour. And what i wouldn't give to go back to those crazy days, best years ever of being a city fan. Yeah i'll take the ensuing shite that followed for those 5 years.

They should have achieved promotion last season. I'm very surprised the Hollywood guys kept him on in all honestly

So the team with a budget that knocks everyone else with the possible exception of Stockport out of the ball park fails to secure promotion? I know our fans on here live to sugar coat stuff, it's the old comfort blanket scenario, but let's just keep it to cold hard facts. Parky failed miserably, they even got beat in the trophy final as well. I even went to watch them at Halifax where Fax were comfortably the better side on the night but luck wasnt on their side.
I have no axe to grind with Parkinson, he did well for us. But that gooey eyed love in won't cloudy judgement over his failure to spend the Hollywood millions wisely

The problem is that once you start flashing the cash and paying over the odds to land your targets, every player you approach from then on in will up their demands, even the bang average ones and why not? I would.
It's a dangerous game that doesn't always payoff.

PP has full credit in the bank at Wrexham. He knows how to get a team out of div 2 as we know.
It’s refreshing that an owner is talking ambitious and increasing expectations unlike ours who bask on about sustainability and economics.

Teams from the National league or that come down do tend struggle to start with in all divisions as it takes time getting used a league.Wrexham will sign quality players as will Notts County.

PP won’t be gone if Wrexham are not top gone September at all. More pressure on Hughes being top come September or Clough. Teams that have been in Div 2 for a while and not succeeding like Bradford City will see crowds turn.

Completely agree. No surprise to see WW having a dig, the same as he likes to do at Posh and McAnthony. All while we continue to languish in the arse end of English football.

It would be nice just to get our own house in order and let these teams worry about us instead!

Of all the owners in the football league, these guys are some the least likely to be dodgy due to their whole lives been built on popularity and their reputations that are based on it. Pure green eyed monster rearing it's jealous head

P.P is under more pressure than at any time in his career yet seems the type to revel in that pressure. The Wrexham story demands another successful season but I believe Reynolds/McElhenny see the benefit of not chopping and changing every two minutes.

Wrexham are a one off. Can't really be replicated as Reynolds really is unique. My point on the whole thing is what would anyone see anything negative in what they are trying to achieve? Who wouldn't be envious of watching two owners come in and completely change the fortunes of their club while also been genuinely interested in the history of the club and the country it is based in? Anyone banging on about the possible repercussions of FFP, does anyone honestly think these guys and their off field team/legal representatives wouldn't know about all this? I hope they go up with Parky at the helm.

The budget is the most important part of the transfer process and as such Sparks will have the final say on what can and can't be done. The others will work within the remit Sparks sets
It was painful to watch them at times. I watched a few of their games and I'd expect a team with the highest budget in the league to play a better standard of football than that.

I'm surprised he's still there to be fair. He's fortunate that he has chairmen there who don't recognise good football (yet)

It wasn't their keeper that cost them going up, that was down to a manager not spending a massive budget to its full potential. No sugar coating last season for Parky, he failed big style.

I'm not so sure. They're in a much better place than a year ago squad wise, selling out regularly.
6/4 to win the league this season. Only Man City have shorter odds than that.
115 goals scored last campaign.....boring, boring Parky.
115 goals scored last campaign.....Parky's so easy to work out.

Also, must add that Wrexham are under FAW transfer windows, unlike the rest of the teams in the National League. So when Stockport strengthened in March, signing players from the Championship to get them over the line, Wrexham couldn't do that.
