If the board don’t deliver a proper signing before the window closes then Rupp has given up on the club. The fans will repay the compliment and it will be even tougher for Rupp to get a buyer then. It will be easier to get interest back in League One so I don’t get why he’s shooting himself in the foot while we are in the playoffs.

 

They could not be getting this more wrong at this point in time.

Everything this club is about now rests on Bowyer finding a style of football the fans will buy back into, whilst winning promotion.

Nope. If we don't beat Oldham will we now have enough funds to sack Bowyer and Drury? It’s the only other plan I can think there might be.

But our finances were only forecast to be in good health because Rupp agrees to underwrite the deficit, weren't they? Suppose that were no longer the case..... or that it never was. We'd be forced to do something like get rid of our higher earners and sign players like Dylan Mottley-Henry.

Let's see. Because if there really IS money available, then we'll act by signing a couple of desperately needed quality players today.

 

Whichever way you look at it today is the day that will answer some big questions. But even if we do make signings doing them on the last day is an act of desperation. It more resembles the gambler’s last throw than planned management. Has any club had a better window than Swindon by the way? Doyle and Yates back and a promising lad from Huddersfield brought in. They seem to know what they’re doing.

 

He was going to put in £1.2M and then the Mcburnie money came in and wiped the deficit completely. At least that’s the narrative we’ve been given.

I’m not saying there’s money available either. Bowyer spending his allocated budget from the summer and being forced to sell the 2 best strikers in the division due to financial turmoil is not the same thing. I’m not expecting much activity today but don’t think the club is in financial straits either.

 

I think it's a combination of things. Partly Rupp losing interest, but also with each deal:

Doyle - the club have seen Bowyers chronic inability to get anything out of him and said 'we're not paying 6k per week for that'. They've got him off the books for that reason.

Vaughan - fallout as a result of tactics and approach.

In both cases it's cheaper to keep the manager and shift the players. They've seen Bowyers style and concluded that it's pointless giving him good players. Just give him shit houses. On that basis they should at least bring him in a forward lump and a midfield battler.

As you say he and Rahic were introduced by a third party, you have to ask is Rupp too trusting or very naive, I would hope the former as he has built a business and is a multi millionaire, so that would suggest he's no fool.

Never rule out Admin when a business is highlighting no ambition. Oldham are close to going into Admin I see.

Admin might not be on the cards for us but under Rupp we are showing no financial ambition and his actions are scary.

The man has faked the club ever since he walked through the door and Rhodes is to blame for that.

A club can got to the wall in defend ways by source might of gone a bit OTT on the Admin front but not far off in terms of the money situation.

 

Well he wasn't yesterday for sure, but I had heard a similar rumour, not just Akpan but Devine, but they were both training with the main group.
